HELP! xt660x touring

Hello, I recently bought an xtx and the crank bearings started spinning in the case (apparently a common problem) and mine appears to have been very mistreated, luckily i work in a bike garage so it's been rebuilt with new chain and sprocket new tyres, new cush drive rubbers and new fork seals, It was built in the last week, I've done 300 miles and i'm going to change the filter tomorrow as i go the day after to spain, france and italy (total of around 3000 miles)
I've been checking the oil when the bike is warm and I can't seem to get two readings the same, sometimes it's half full sometimes it full, any reason why?
also any maintenance tips or advice on modifications to stop me having to do a rebuild again would be appreciated.

Its the way it is lol
It's to do with the dry sump and the oil stored in the frame,
Just make sure you put the 2.7 or 2.9 I forget which, liters in, as I remember it you put 2 in them run it for a couple of minutes and put the rest in
As for a reading think that's the same run it for a couple of minutes, let it stand for 1 and do your reading,
Hopefully someone else will confirm this

There is a decent thread regarding oils and the procedure- I was looking for some advice the other day as I'm doing the oil and filter myself soon.

To get a good reading on the stick I have to put more in than per the book, with book quantity it doesn't even show on the stick, biggest hassle is rigging up your own Heath Robinson device to get the oil back in the frame!!!

Take your bike to Alf England for some good honest service, they really do know what they are doing, talk to Brian the service manager. And call me if you make it down to Roma, +393338153190 mobile, and note that Italy is more or less closed for holidays in August. Good luck!!!
