Angry New species of Spider - Aranea Tenereus!!

Gave the bike its once a year thorough clean today. After removing the film of splattered Scottish midges off the headlight, I find a spider has taken up residence inside the headlight and has strung up a web right in front of both reflectors!

Difficult to photograph but here's a rough idea of what the little blighter has been up to...

My problem now is finding the culprit, getting him out before he/she spins any more and removing the web?

The lens cover does come away from the reflectors, it's hard and you have to be gentle but firm - it's glued together with a mastic type substance.

Watch the reflectors though, the silver is a fine silver dust that comes off if you even think about breathing on it, and touch it at your peril!

More to the point, how did it get in!

I think it must have crawled in through the small vent pipe on the back. Other than that it might be a 4 year old Italian spider!

Victory at last!

I finally got the web out tonight, but didn't find the spider? I think he/she'd have starved by now anyway as he/she hadn't caught a great deal - just one measly thunder bug! Tried the obvious: Compressed air - didn't work, specially adapted vacuum cleaner nozzle - didn't work. In the end the successful method involved my 6 year old daughter making a 1" pom-pom (which she's rather good at) and then me attaching it to an old wire coat hanger, inserting through the dip bulb hole, and slowly twisting it round, winding up the web round the it, and hey presto out it all came back through the bulb hole!

Now time for a pint...
