Thank God for Steve D!!!

Hi all,

Tonight on my way home from work, I was the unfortunate victim of a hit and run!

Some total ars3 wipe in a 4x4 (no doubt drunk) was came over a bridge on my side of the road with their full beam on.

I managed to slam my brakes on, move the bike to the left and hope for the best. The a55 hole clipped my handle bars and put me on the floor. Me and the ten slid about 15 meters and I narrowly missed going under the wheels!

Next thing I know im on my back with a fecked knee looking over my shoulder to watch the tw4t speed off!

When the cops turned up they looked at my skid marks etc and deduced that the driver had made no attempt to stop at all their was no skid marks or anything on their behalf!

Fortunately the bike seems to have very minor damage. Ball end of the brake lever is ground down, Rear brake lever is bent (Again) and the crash protector on the tank is ground away nicely. Unfortunately it does appear to have gotten through to the tank and peirced and very small hole into it.

New tank? reweld?

anyway heres a few pants pics I took at the scene.

Reason why this is titled 'Thank God for SteveD' is this....

The kit that he gave me at the lakes meet has sure enough done its job! There is only slight scratches on my jacket and my trousers are full of holes down the right hand side. The pads in them worked wonders! I have a very dead leg/knee however I can bend it etc so no lasting damage as the kit took most of the brunt!

So thank you SteveD!!!

Just goes to shwo eh, no matter who and where you are, no matter how often you ride that same stretch of road and no matter what your experience level....The worse can happen any time, any where!

Well I will see what the true extent of the damage is tomorrow!!!
Judging by what I put her through at the lakes my hopes are high!

Blimey Chris.....

Just goes to show, you've gotta be on your guard, and it pays to have the right gear on, even if you are just going to the shops.

Glad you're OK.

good to hear you are ok, yep the right gear is important, saved me countless times!
as for the tank keep an eye on ebay as they come up from time to time. as a temporary measure perhaps try a fibreglass repair I'M sure if the correct prep is done it should be permanant, deffo look into the possibility.

the main thing is, you are ok!

Wow, glad you are OK and the gear certainly did its job.

By the way the tank plastic is about 5 mm thick. If the hole is just a pin prick you could try a stainless steel screw, would last forever!, or until you can get another tank.

Will keep eyes out for another.

Mate, sorry to hear..

Your bike don't look to happy on the deck like. Hope it's ok, and you.

Don't know if it's true, but a mate/welder at work once said never to weld a tank because they can explode? I had a hole in a tank once.

speak soon

must be the chinese year of the knee

At least your ok and bike is repairable mate, a lucky escape, i hope that t**t ends up upside down in a ditch, too many of them f**kers about. Steves kit saved your bacon and thats the main thing.

Well to add to the friggin whole thing.......

Miding my own business on my way into town this morning guess what.....

Another friggin 4 wheeled metal box found its way to plough into my side!

Can't be bothered to go into the whole story but long and short of it is I went to over take and he jumped out infront of me.

Driver behind me is acting as my witness and stated that the driver who hit me never gave any indication that he was going to swing right.

Had any of the tell tales been there I wouldnt have gone to overtake him.

This was how his car was positioned etc before I over took him......
Tyres- pointing straight
Drivers head- looking forwards
Indicators- none flashing
Position- to the left hand side of the road

Road conditons- dry open clear veiw and straight
Oncoming traffic- none

Checked bike over no damage- rides fine.

His drivers door and wing are fecked and will need some serious work!

2-0 to my XT!!!!

Man I swear down sh*t is attracted to me!
