How to Install Pannier Racks on XTZ...
So....
..I ordered an set of panniers and pannier support racks for my XTZ courtesy of Ardcases to continue modifying my moto. The racks are powder coated and with quality welding. They also line up perfectly with the moto frame holes with no reeming required.Very pleased with the level of workmanship indeed with nothing to complain about at all.... In this article I will show how to mount the racks so as to enable the panniers to be offered up to same. This is an easy job to carry out so if you have had any sort of trepidation about ordering a system like this go ahead and do so..no special tools required and again any money saved in dealer labour charges can be converted directly into Guinness... The tools you will need(for this system) 2x 13mm spanners,1x17mm spanner,1x 17mm socket and extension bar/ratchet,1x 10mm spanner 1x 5mm allen key,1x 6mm allen key and some Copper Grease(optional) First remove the seat. [IMG] [/IMG] Offer up both racks to confirm that any holes line up with any holes in the moto frame. [IMG] [/IMG] Smear some copper grease on the mounting bolts and in this instance it is an allen head bolt and 13mm nut. The rack mounts to holes pre drilled in the rear foot peg support. Tighten the bolts up loosely to allow the rack to be wiggled into position relative to any other frame holes. [IMG] [/IMG] [IMG] [/IMG] The top rack hole will line up to a hole in the moto frame in behind the rear plastic handgrip body work. You do not need to remove same as spanners will fit in behind the body work. [IMG] [/IMG] [IMG] [/IMG] Offer up the other rack and mount the same way as the first rack. As can be seen here there's a long bolt supplied. This will go through the top rack hole, underneath the seat and where it will exit at the top hole of the other rack. It comes supplied plastic coated so as to avoid rusting due to rear wheel water/mud throw up,which I thought was a nice 'attention to detail' touch. [IMG] [/IMG] Install into top rack/moto frame hole. [IMG] [/IMG] Underneath seat picture.... [IMG] [/IMG] After some copper grease on the bolt tighten up loosely ... [IMG] [/IMG] There is also a lower rear strengthening support bar that joins the racks at the bottom. Offer this up to the two racks and install the 2x 10mm nuts and bolts supplied, again tightening loosely. [IMG] [/IMG] Tighten every bolt up. ohlins, you will find that the panniers will sit very close to the grab rails for the pillion. if you take passengers you might want to look into this. i am going to move mine out to allow more room for hands.

Looks like someone should consider making up something to block off the hole left by the stock exhaust
Great guide, thanks! |

Yip.....there's the 'odd bit' of mud that gets spat up... (I spied a thread here of someone who had done just that....) Add that to the list . |
