out and about in the peak district with MrFijit
So this morning I was up bright and early getting ready to head oot to the peak district. At 11am i left shepshed and began heading up to Ambergate to meet MrFijit. As I bimbled through town I heard the unmistakable sound of a single thumping towards me. Sure enough around the corner burbled a red xtx (looked standard) I gave a wave and the rider nodded back. (Anyone off here?)
As I headed out onto the A6 and up towards Derby there was still fog about and I couldnt see much more than 30 yards ahead of me, but as I continued on my way the mist cleard and the sun came out. Our meeting for this adventure was the Hurt Arms in Ambergate. I arrived just before 12am and parked up awaiting the arival of MrFijit............ ![]() Just after 12am MrFijit arrived and we planned a route which would take us up to Matlock over to Bakewell and then up to Buxton. There after I suggested heading over the Cat and Fiddle and then to Macclesfield down to Congleton and back to the Cat and Fidddle. Agreed we set off. We made our way to Matlock soaking up the bends with the awesome machines that are the XTs, I followed MrFijit first. It was like watching a poised cheater ready to pounce at every opportunity. His DNA filtered, PC v beast roared past dawdeling weekend drivers and 'I only come out when the sun shines' weekend bikers, closely followed by my flying hearing aid! Coming into Matlock I overtook MrFijit and took the lead. Between Matlock and Bakewell we got stuck between to sports dudes. One on a GSXr and one on an R1/6, both had baffelless race cans and at every oppertunity wound their wrists round on the few and far between straights. I was chuckling away to myself as the sports dudes zorsts were screaming in pain because they had no room to run. The riders were shifting uncomfortably in their seats and shaking their wrists in discomfort. Myself and MrFijit were cruising along quite happily and chilled burbeling along at 3k revs catching and threatening to overtake the sports dudes in the corners. On reaching Bakewell we continued on to Buxton and then up to the Cat and Fiddle. We pulled in at the pub for the obligatory photo op. On entering the car park we rode in tall watched by all the sports dudes out onto the grass and mounted a plinth (Right where the XTs belong). MrFijit told me that he had never been up to or rode the Cat and Fiddle before.......I can now officialy say that he has lost his CAF virginity!....and here is the proof! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After soaking up the sunshine we continued on over the infamous road and down into Macclesfield. All I could see in my mirrors was a very happy MrFijit soaking up the corners and enjoying this new road. From Macclesfield we headed down to Congleton and then back up to the Cat and Fiddle on the Congleton road. For those of you who haven't rode this road, you need to it is awesome. It is very unjulating and twisty. Its like a rollercoaster that everyone can enjoy. Once arriving back at the Cat and Fiddle I took MrFijit down to Derbyshire bridge to explore the old Macclesfield road. This is an awesome 2 mile off road track that takes you back to Buxton. Whilst at the bottom of the track weighing up the rocks and ruts I heard an almigjty rev and witnessed MrFijit shoot off up the track. Not wanting to be outdone I gave chase and togther we cruised up the road, bouncing over the rocks and ruts. At the top we stopped to pose for some more piccies........ ![]() ![]() ![]() At the top we met a rather curious old gent who was scooting around on a scrambler with huge nobbly tyers on it. He was riding around with a sons of anarchy style helmet on, t-shirt, jeans and his weekend trainers. He warned us that the next half of the track gets really steep, very rough and rocky. The gent wasn't joking either, we started on our way down the road and we were being bounced around everywhere. At one point we stopped and MrFijit feared he was going to go Ar5e over Ti*. Regardless we battled on and made it safely down, with andrenaline pumping we geared our monster up and hoofed it back to Ambergate. We covered about 200 miles today in brilliant sunshine on fantastic roads and in great company. My back end is now very numb and my tyres are truely scrubbed in! Thanks for today MrFijit top bloke and rider...looking forward to next time. Cheers all.
