Hello there fellow riders.

I am improving the air intake of my XTR. I have allready fitted K&N airfilter, and now I'm considering taking out the snorkel and purchasing DNA stage 2 filter. What troubles me is water getting inside airbox during heavy rain or when washing the bike. I know many of you have done both of these mods, so I'm pretty sure that I don't have to worry. But I don't want to be pretty sure, I want to be SURE.

Am I again too cautious with my engine?

Water wont pass the DNA unless it's submerged and you open up the throttle.

You should only watch out not to direct high pressure water onto the filter.

Bueno, thats what I thought. However with my offroading skills and lack of common sense will propably get my bike submerged.

If thats the case then no type of filter will help you! You will be fine they are very resilient and designed to filter anything. Think of it this way even if you got it soaked its only a prefilter, your main filter is tucked away safely behind it. If you did get it soaked and fired up the motor then if it was blocked with water the air flow would increase through the snorkel or top of the air box instead of the stage 2.

Are you sure ? AFAIK the stage2 filter s not a prefilter. It filters the air that enters the airbox just as the other filter and the engine sucks the air from that box. (I hope I am not talking rubish)

The stage II is a direct replacement for the original sealed airbox cover.

That's what I mean, there is no filter after the stage 2 filter (or airbox cover)

Also, having two filters back to back would mean less air entering, defeating the object.

I just want to make sure nobody thinks there is another filter behind the stage2 filter that "refilters" the air.

Sumary: the stage 2 filter won't let any water in but don't think there is anything else between your stage 2 filter and your engine
