My Tenere and a charity ride
Hey all!
I've been away from the forum for a while being overseas and sorting through some life stuff. I wanted to share with fellow tenere-heads something that I am doing in July but I'll give you some background info first so please bear with me! In 2010 my step brother was diagnosed with Leukaemia. After a long battle and a stem cell transplant he passed away in July last year. Since then I've been AWOL as you can imagine as I've sorted through life stuff but late last year we came up with an idea. Why don't we ride around Australia to raise money and awareness for the Leukaemia foundation? So we got all the permits and approval from the charity to do so and now we are official. On the July 1 this year, exactly a year and a day since Corey passed away, we are embarking on a 21 day 10,000km motorcycle ride around half of Australia to raise money and funds for the Leukaemia foundation. We're going to average 500km per day and I'm going to do it all on the trusty Tenere. I really love this bike and can't imagine doing such a ride on anything else. We have our own website too. Check out www.coreyscruise.org it's got Corey's whole story on there. So far we have raised over $1000 and we have barely started! I wanted to share the ride and will post a ride report on it when I'm done as well. It's going to be one hell of an adventure. |

Good luck with your ride. The Tenere is more than capable, I took mine over 8000 miles in 19 days back in 2008 (again for charity).
Anyone (and you will get someone) saying it's easy has never tried such a venture, the worst thing is the constant riding, not being able to take in the sights, sounds, smells etc. Would I do it again ? No. Missing much of where I rode is a constant reminder to me to take stuff in now. But I'm glad I did it. Again, good luck with your ride, turning a loss into a positive isn't easy.

When you pass by Mount Isa and if I'm on days off I'll be keen to ride and donate.

Thanks guys. Yes it was a difficult time but we're hoping at least something positive will come from it.
Metzy, we go past Mt Isa on July 12 providing we stick to our schedule. The plan is to stop in Cloncurry on the 11th and then ride to Barkley on the 12th. I'm guessing we will probably be stopping in Mt Isa for morning tea that day, maybe even breakfast depending on what time we leave but I can let you know closer to the date. |
