Steering head bearings!!!!!

I have posted this in the Tenere section but thought i would put it here as well as i thought the bearings would be the same across the XT range.....

High guys, does anyone know the bearing number and a good (cheap) bearing place to get them from for the steering head bearings on a 09 XTZ? I have just been quoted 90 the pair from the dealer!!!!!!!

90 !!!

I paid 60 for Yamaha OE ones a month or so back. I don't have the numbers but I do still have the old bearings, or rather the bits that I can measure....

Give me some time

Its these numbers you need to quote.

The first two numbers tell you what type of bearing - in this case (32) a taper roller bearing. The last two digits multiplied by 5 give the internal diameter of the bearing. Last letters give the seal type/ or any other information that is applicable - in this case can't remember, too long ago!

Wemoto stock Tenere parts,34.50 for a head bearing set.I've always been happy with their quality and service.

http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/Yamaha/X...8-09/#BEARINGS

I thought my head bearings were going but after removing them they looked okay but were lacking in grease.A regrease and refit and they feel fine again.

I did remove them when I first bought the bike and found little grease on them from the factory, slapped loads of waterproof grease in there but after 20000 miles most of it was gone again, those outer seals aren't the best designed.

In praise of the Tenere, I've done 23000 miles, a lot of wet greenlaning and 5 long distance trials and haven't had one bearing or cable fail yet.

Less than a tenner each...

Although by the time you add the VAT in, the Wemoto price is pretty good as well, and I'd probably go with them for the convenience.

One of those links is a Koyo bearing (the other I think was another Japanese brand, but I bet with a bit more digging you could find the Koyo one). I'd be almost certain that the OE ones are Koyo, the wheel bearings certainly are.

So you're not buying a 'pattern' bearing. You're buying the same bearing, just not in a Yamaha box

TBH with any chassis/wheel bearings, if you buy something with the same code, making sure it's got the same seals if applicable, from *any* well known brand (SKF, FAG/INA, NTN, Koyo), it will be fine.

+1 but if available and not tooooo costly would go for SKF every time.
