Front Fender Mods XT660X

This is just an idea which reflects a "road & track" only mentality... I like it.

I haven't done it to the bike yet but I would like to see if anyone else has actually found a part that would do the job instead of going the hard and complicated path of making one.

Yes it is Photoshop!
Just a quick representation... nothing fancy.

Standard front fender...

Ktm Duke 690 has this fender and it looks awesome in the flesh... can't understand why Yamaha hasn't stepped in with this type of part, at least as an optional part to be purchased in addition to the bike.

Thanks folks all comments are welcome...

Can you post a Photoshop of the fender in place and the new one as well? I like the mod it would certainly improve what is frankly a rubbish at stopping water spray stanard fender.

On it's own the jury is still out for me.

I think if the mudguard was bigger it would look good.

The rooster tail hitting you in the face is amusing first time it happens, but it soon gets annoying.

I made a small fender out of an empty Halfords oil container which had a nice front to back curve on it that looked like it would match the tyre curvature.
Mk 1 version is the purple one on the left

I shaped it to fit around the fork leg protectors and made two holes to mount it under the alloy fork brace using the two front bolts.

Mk1 was OK under about 35mph, above that it folded back so that it was vertical, the plastic was too thin.

So I made a MK2 out of a thin (1-2mm), steel sheet I had lying around. It was the backing to an old LCD monitor.
I drew around the plastic version and made it slightly longer.
Took a bit of filing to get it to fit and was thin enough to bend by hand around the tyre to give it some shape.

Finished off with a couple of coats of matt black spray paint.

Can't really say how effective it is yet as it has not rained on my daily commute for the last few months.

The road was very wet in places the other day after a heavy shower and I did not see a rooster tail.
Now I actually want it to rain so I can test it out.

Hi mudrock, it's working very well.
Have ridden through some really bad weather in the last couple of months and no more water in the face from the front wheel.

The only thing I am not sure about is will it go through the MOT. I think it may need a rolled front to it to make it pedestrian friendly.
MOT is due in early Jan, I won't mention it and will see what happens.
I can take it off in a couple of mins so no big deal.

Wow I would LOVE to get something to avoid the rooster tails in the face when raining but I am NOT as handy as Red Dog. Has anyone found a standard front fender that can be fitted to replace the stupid standard one??? Help please!!! Thanks

This one is an Acerbis Supermoto one, it stops the rootster on the front, its far better than the stock fitted guard. You have to cut it down at the back to fit though but thats a really easy job to do.

Hey Tony thanks for the response but now I am more confused......the bike you show in the pic looks to me to have the standard front half hugger with the blue high front piece so er where is the Acerbis bit??? Please forgive me as I am a newbie on here so perhaps I am being thick....Thanks Simon
