All I remember seeing (in MCN) was this picture of a patent drawing a while back (August 2010)...

It's of an X not an R and suggests things like it'll be styled along the lines of the Ducati Hypermotard and Aprilia Dorsoduro, plus it will have USD forks, but motor will be the same.

If you believe what MCN (More Crap than News) writes in their worthless paper, you'd believe that Martians have landed in Essex of all places looking for inteligent women who can spell their own names.

That is an artist sketch if there was a new redesigned XTX / XTR / XTZ or XT1200Z be sure I've got inside contacts and I'd be one of the first to know and tell you all about it.

Agree entirely, but zenity's post was asking for "rumours" - MCN is the best place to look for them!

I must be insane, but I checked out the US Patent Office online and the reference on the drawing does refer to a genuine Yamaha application for a patent (refers to a specific improved design of exhaust system). If you read the description of the bike in the application it certainly sounds something like an XT660?

It may well be a load of bull, then again it might not, its just a rumour...

Pleiades, thanks for that info... I searched mcn and have found this...
http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/Ne...60-on-the-way/

New Yamaha XT660 supermoto on the way

MCN has uncovered designs showing the next-generation Yamaha XT660 supermoto with Ducati Hypermotard-like styling.
Its a far cry from the dumpy current XT, which lacks excitement and desirability compared to thoroughbred European supermotos from the likes of KTM. The new one has a leaner, more exciting look.
The detailed patent drawing shows the single-cylinder bike with what appears to be the same tubular chassis and the same engine as the current XT, so its still not likely to be a direct competitor for race-ready rivals such as KTMs 690SM, but more a softer, more rounded alternative with the right look.
More details in next weeks MCN, out on August 18.

Let's see if anything emerges for the R.
