Angry Popping XT660X

Hi Guys and Girls,

I'm a newly proud owner of a 2004 XT660X, bought 3 days ago. I've never owned a single before and so far I'm grinning every time I ride, however the bike has a strange little habit of 'popping' when coming off the throttle. At first I put it down to being a single but now its getting worse and constantly popping when on closed throttle (slowing down) and between gear changes. Is this normal or have I bought a dud?!?!

It sure is.

It's the AIS, and you grow to love the sound. You will also learn how to make the bike pop on demand, usefull at times

It is Air Induction System. It is a valve that let air in exhaust so that all unburnt fuel get burned. That way you get less pollution and have cleaner exhaust gas.

Some would say that is one of the beauties of that bike, it scares the s**t out of cage driver when you filter past them, and you get 10 points when you ride past Henrietta on her horse, if your bike pops one out and the horse knocks her off.
