Yamaha Tenere XTZ660 20,000kms on
Firstly I must say some products here were purchased from some of the sponsors on my web site and others were purchased elsewhere and overseas. Everything I have on the bike has been paid for nothing was free and I havent settled on something because it was cheaper. You will see somethings have been tried and changed because it didnt work or I wasnt happy with it. I try to give a reason for everything I have done. It is all my opinion but I have done some real adventure riding testing myself, the gear and the bike. Of the 20,000kms I reckon 80 to 90% would be dirt the most recent was the unsupported 3 state ride see below for an example of what we do
http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=16648 And the two day 1100km Tenere run in northern NSW http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=16216 Anyway back to the purpose of this post, I posted this here last Nov when I completed 10,000kms on my Tenere http://obtrailriders.com/index.php?o...1879&Itemid=75 Now its ticked over 20,000kms so I thought I would write about the changes and thoughts etc for the last 10,000kms One other thing I have drowned it big time because of my short legs, it happened while crossing the Murray and was completely under water for 20 odd seconds. It needed a de-water and 2 oil changes there and then to sort it but hasnt missed a beat since. When that happened myself and the 9 other guys with me stood amazed that not a thing in my soft panniers or top bag were wet or even damp. The digital dash took two days to dry out but everything including both GPSs still work fine and dandy to this day. So in following with the 10,000kms on a Tenere post I did 6 months ago here is the 20,000km update. There have been some changes I have made to the bike for whatever reason. I will also cover the tyres run in the 20,000 and what I feel works and doesnt and why. Please note these are all my opinion but I have changed things that havent worked, been honest about the things that havent and have. I have spoken with people that know or spent hours researching everything I try to save money for me in the long run. All the extras, the bike and I have been tested beyond the parameters I thought I would ever use the bike for an adventure rider recently said I do good proper adventure rides not just a ride down the main street of Cobar. Hopefully something here helps someone else To understand everything I have done in the 20000kms you need to read the first 10,000km post here, this thread adds to that one the 2nd 10,000kms as such First change in the last 10,000kms is the rear racks and bags. I have a set of Barrett racks for my Wolfman Bags. Jason at Barrett Exhausts has manufactured these quality racks. There were some problems with the first batch of racks but Jason was all over it and listened to what we thought needed to be done to strengthen the racks. I had the pre production racks (my bike was used as the jig to make the first set) mine never broke but Jason got them back and modified them to the new spec for piece of mind. First set, notice no back brace between the racks under the tail light assembly Updated racks notice the back brace And the thicker top mounting tabs, thicker because that was where Nickjs broke Cost of the racks? Well the racks came as a set from Adventure Moto the OBT deal is $600 for bags and racks Rating of the racks 9 out of 10 because they are now strong, look good and the after sales service from Barretts is excellent Cont
