Thanks again, yes I'm very happy the way it turned out after 50 trips to the otherside of town and all the attemps at getting it all lined up for the bolts etc.
It's also very sturdy. I was a little worried that the flat side support plates would flex but its rock solid. I put all my weight on it and it didn't move at all.

Thats a really great job. The black looks great too. Is the black anodised or painted?

Thanks very much
In these photo's they were anodised and they turned out beautifully except for the four pilot holes I had lazer cut in the rack for precise positioning for the struts. Unfortunately the guide holes which were welded and sanded to 1200 grit, still showed up in the anodising which spoilt the finish, so I have had them powder coated and they have turned out very well.
In future I will etch the position for the struts underneath for the welding.

Finally got my xmas pressie fitted to my XTR- and it will fit XTX the same way as well of course- so all those X riders out there who is looking for proper packing space for your kit, here you go.
Fitting it takes about 30 minutes and it is as strong and solid as a WW2 German tank.
It is made out of high grade 6mm aluminium with thick powder coating for extra protection. Design is perfect, strong and durable and the idea of using the top handgrip bolts as well as the exhaust mount as mounting points is cleverly thought after. You can actually lift the bike up from the back using the rack without worrying that it is going to bend or break- very useful when your mates have to help push you up that slippery and muddy hill after a river crossing.
Fitted my Oxford backpack on it , and there is still plenty of space all round to fit more goods and enough place to hook your straps in place.
The XT660R cutout on the rear just rounds this off and makes it something that looks professionally done- make sure you tell GStry you have a XTX if you order this one for your XTX.

Now if you go on net and search for XT rear racks you will not get alot, and none of the options is practical (especially those who had stickers on them saying MAX LOAD 5kg- WTF, who takes 5kg of kit with them on a adventure trip ???) with more exposure it soon will be available as first optiosn when you google "XTR rear racks"..so nobody have to search too far again when in market for a good, practical, strong and pretty rear rack for their bike.
Well done GStry, it was the best money spent in long time on my bike.

Please tell the world of XT R/X drivers that this rack can be bought somewhere. This looks really awesome!!!! If yes .... what's the prize? Other racks have a 5Kg limit... ppffttt.
Nice job on the rack.
Greets from Belgium.
