Question Stage 2 DNA on a XT660R?

hi again, i'm thinking to get a dna stage 2 on my xtr, i have allready kev's fuel mod and the air box drilled and k&n air filter. my only concern is that the dna stage 2 will be exposed to dust and dirt. i'm thinking of cutting the top half (diagonal) of the air filter cover ( the lower part will look the same but in the top part to have a big hole) then put the cover on the stage 2 dna, this way is a bit more protected from dust and dirt. another thing, is it wort having a stage 2 dna on the xtr as i intend to use the bike for touring and i'm not a speed fanatic? any changes in the fuel consumption? and is it road legal? do i have to let the insurance now about it to be sure i'm still covered?
to many questions, i know, but any help will be much appreciated. many thanks
