Installing tool tubes on SW Motech rack

I got myself some tool tubes and used the long weekend and my father in law's assistance to mount them on the Tenere. There's a perfect space on the inside of my SW Motech Quick-lock pannier rack, underneath the exhaust.

The idea is to reuse one of the bolts of the pannier rack to fixate the bottom of the tool tube and make up an additional mounting plate that attaches to the rack to fixate the top.

So I started off with a cardboard template:

The shape follows the bottom rear corner of the rack nicely. Holes for mounting the plate were carefully measured to be drilled out.

So we made 2 aluminium versions, one for either side

and mounted them on the inside of the rack.

Then fitted the tool tube itself.

Rear view:

Both side done:

There's just enough room to get the caps off the tool tubes. Although it is tight on the rhs. The pannier rack pulls the tail piece slightly to that side on my bike.

I just need to shorten the bolts I used to mount the tube to the plate. Now they are a but inconvenient when getting the cap on and off.

Anyway, it worked nicely and looks good as well imho.

nice job buddy. Any chance of dimensions of where the holes are to be positioned so others can copy this idea

you'll probably be safer marking the drill holes yourself. But for reference, on the cardboard template pic the 2 top holes are 102mm and 120mm from the right edge. And 16,5mm from the top edge. The bottom one is 12mm from the right edge and 43,5mm from the bottom.
The holes for the tool tube depend on what angle you want to mount it on. You could probably mount them slightly more parallel to the exhaust and use the 2 closer holes in the tube. I'm using the 2 holes furthest apart, you wouldn't be able to do that if you tilted the tube lower, then the bottom mounting hole would be too close to the edge of the alu adapter plate. Indicators might also be a bit more in the way if you'd do that.
