Noisy Lids!

Hi All,

Just want to add a bit to the helmet debate.

We have been testing helmets for a long trip and have some findings to share.

We have no comment on brands as one persons application or demands would differ from another. But what we have found is that a helmet that has been said to be noisy can change dramatically by a change of screen or be quiet with no screen at all when another helmet could be the opposite.

We tested four of the most popular, two costing circa 120 - 200 and two costing circa 300 - 350. You all know what lids they are.

When you can test them back to back under different conditions it really is six of one, half a dozen so to speak.
We opted for a lid that was on the noisy side with our screen we plan to use but had great fit-removable liner and vents that beat the rest. It was one of the more costly ones but the fit was the best for us both.

So in round up, don't be put off a lid just because one person might say it's noisy/heavy/poor fit etc etc. Poor quality is the thing to look out for, if you try it and it fits you well and ticks your own boxes then it is a good lid.

hope you don't mind us adding our six pence worth.

Paul and Angie

that's not 6 pence... that's about 2pence.

So you tested 4 helmets, with names we know but have no idea what the are and we're supposed to guess ?

Most bemusing post i've ever read.

You're not supposed to guess anything, I thought it's pretty obvious what they're saying.

Here's my 2 pence re the title...CCC's minus baffles + no ear plugs = noisy lid whatever the make/model

Not doing a review of lids weeks, that's for people with far greater knowledge than us, perhaps some one like yourself could do that.

Just wanted to get a point across that just because one person finds a problem with a lid doesn't mean to say that you will.

How lucky are we to have the four best lids in the market to test though!
Good luck with the guessing.

Pretty much, but then the helmet debate is very similar to the tyre debate - you can get a few pointers, but the only way you're going to find out if something suits you is to stump up the cash and put a few thousand miles on it.

The post is not tenuous at all, it is what it is.
If you want me to tell you what lid to buy - ok, go buy a Tourx 3 charley. Doesn't matter what lid suited us or which lid we purchased - people would disagree with us as that particular lid is not for them.
That's why you shouldn't reject a lid on other peoples views - try it - like it - buy it. Simples

Ps, no we didn't buy the X3 Charlies

Blimey it's hard to get a point across.

Yes, tenuous - It is a fairly weak point to make, where there is no argument, "everyone is different"

Not at all, you haven't provided an argument in either direction. Yes people would disagree, you are right in that respect. But they would disagree with some reasoning, or evidence, or just plain prefference - you haven't given anything to discuss, just that you did something, and made a descision based on what you did, but failed to give any indication of what you did.

That's the problem, there isn't realy a point to get across. You are saying that everyone is different, that isn't a point, that is a response to an argument that isn't there - no one has ever said 'everyone is the same', so where is the need for a point ?

I can't belive I've been sucked into this......

In summary you are saying;

You tested some helmets and found a combination that works for you.

You don't say what you tested, neither did you say how you tested, you don't give any criteria, you don't say how you graded the results, neither do you give any results, but you give a conclusion that everyone is different.

The OP is missing substance, if you were to say how you came to your descision then fine, or the criteria used, or how you used your results to form an opinion, etc. You can still give some substance without entering into the 'this helmet is best' debate, or you can make your results know and why you chose which particular helmet. This would give the guys a way of choosing their next helmet, as you say they might come to a different conslusion, but that's the point, as we are different we choose differently.

No-one can argue to you saying 'xyz helmet is best for me because .....' so why not post your offering in a complete way ?
