XT660R engine stalls

Hi everbody,

I have a problem with my '04 XTR. When the engine is at normal temperature it now and then stalls. Most of the times it happens when I clutch after "rolling out" or when I have shifted in first and clutch, it suddenly "drops dead". It is not the typical on/off thing at low rev's but a complet stall. After pushing the start button it fires directly up. The TPS is modified, but the ECU is still the original one (yes, the faulty). I have a PC III with a DNA filter and allreay adjusted the TPS signal, CO and stationary rev. The rest is standard. Can anyone give me help or direction in this problem? Is this problem maybe adressed to the first generation ECU?

Many thanks in advance!

Gtz,
Pieter

My 2006 XTX does this occasionally approaching a junction (or more often a roundabout for some reason) she cuts out dead. Unnerving at first, now i'm used to it and just dip the clutch and start her again. Can go for weeks and it won't happen, then twice in a short run.
So sorry that's no help for you whatsoever... but you're not alone

Aye mine did it as bog standard a couple of times on the ride bringing her home! And still does it with after market exhausts, stage 1 fileter and co2 increase.
I just like to think of it as a feature to make sure you're paying attention

Side Stand Switch

I had this problem, and gradually it got worse.
No worries it was just the side stand switch.
Give the switch some wd40 and work it in. Also check the connection behind the side panel.
Follow the lead up from the switch till you find the connection plug. See if its slightly loose. Pull it apart put some wd40 in.
It sorted mine out as my connection plug was slightly loose.
Also check your idle speed is 1500 min when warmed up.

04 models had there TPS replaced for cutting out, make sure your idle speed is set to between 1400 - 1500 RPM.

Have a read in the mod section right at the very bottom of the thread.

Also you may find that this happens when you have a near empty tank just before the fuel light comes on. This is a design problems due to the tank being dished so when you slow down all the fuel slides forward away from the fuel pump for a split second meaning no fuel therefore no go, so be smooth on the roll off and it should be grand. Also as kev and others said up the rev's and check your ECU is the non faulty one.

Nightmare first day out for ages

Hi, i have just returned from my first days riding in a long time and it was nothing short of a nightmare as my pride and joy was constantly misfiring and cutting out. It does this when coming down the box approaching a junction or bend and when coming to stationary cuts out 8/10 times. I have checked all the things mentioned here before. I know my TPS has been changed etc. The only thing different i have done since getting it out this year is to put some Premium 97 RON fuel in but i have refilled with standard with no change. Could it be the fuel as i have never used 97 before and had a perfect couple of years so far. HELP PLEASE.

So you're not having such a brill time with your bike. You will when you get it sorted. I had issues with mine when I first got it. I guess Kev will be along later. Dont worry mate it will get sorted, mine did.
