Thumbs up replacement exhaust

Hi, I'm looking to replace the stock system with either a Leovince or Akrapovic system. Will I need to make any other mods regarding filters/fuelling. I'm not looking for any performance gains its purely aethstetic. Also will they clear the O/E panniers. yamaha give the price for the Akrapovics at 670. and Leovinces are available on E-bay for 359. Are the Akrapovics 311 better than the LV's ?.
Any thoughts / advice will be appreciated. Kelv

If you're happy with twin pipes - I'd opt for the LV's based on price alone. You'll get best results with a K&N/DNA air filter and either Kev's fuel mod or the Power Commander.

If you want an even better look, go for a single can.. X Racing of course..

Removing the snorkel (I just cut mine off with a Stanley knife and re-formed the inlet shape a bit) will also be a free enhancement to both power and a nice induction noise..

Akras are fine with the OE pannier rails. I have that combination on mine.

Regarding fuelling, I've opted for presuming it's fine - given they're a Yamaha accessory, fitted to my bike by a Yamaha dealer (on behalf of the previous owner), then I'll be having words with someone if it eats a piston. If I was going to do any of the airbox/filter mods as well then I obviously would stick a PC on it and get it on a dyno.

Mate i bought a set from TK pipes in Australia. You get a single pipe on the right and a tool/pipe on the left that can carry two tubes and tools. THe TK pipes were Dyno'd and got 47hp which is pretty good. The pipes are made out of aluminium and are ceremacoated to reduce heat. HAve a look they are a pretty good pipe.

Thumbs up

Hiya, Thanks for the replies The LVs seem to be edging it purely on price. I like the look of the TK pipe option but at 990 dolars (600gbp) + the cost of shipping will prove to be too costly. As stated its purely for the looks but I suppose that once fitted any extra power output will be a bonus and I will inevitably go down the K&N and Kev mod / power commander route.
Taking the Ten on a Tour round the Balkans and into Russia next year and will be in the company of a couple of GS12's so want to get the best out of her.

Victory is not always to the swift but to those who keep moving.

A wee misquoted quote by somebody from somewhere that you can use on your GS12 friends when they break down.

Hee hee, know what you mean - hopefully they would have had all the BMW recalls by the time we go and their Ring Antennas fuel pumps, final drive seals and battery problems would have been sorted
