my new xt 660 x 09
Hi,
Hope you are all ok? Top site! Needed a new bike and was torn between an 06 640 ktm sm with 8000 miles 3500 or a mint 09 xtx with 14 months warranty, 2 months breakdown cover, 1 owner, white and only 587 miles all for 3400. I plumbed for the xtx (aways been a Yamaha fan from my fs1e days) and have only ridden 50 miles so far (all today) and I have to say I'm impressed by the smooth power (for a single), on the motorway it pulled from 70 to 90 with a fair amount of force so I'm really pleased, even through town was a breeze with no surging just really smooth power. The clutch lever was a tad stiff but hopefully will ease with time but the bike handled well and was really comfy even today in 0.5C conditions gave it a proper wash when I got home (looks like new again). So far so good and can't wait to get back out (in warmer conditions). will give an update once more miles are clocked up. Armo |

I made a similar decision and bought a low milage XTZ on a 2009 plate. Great bike to ride, and good for commuting.
I think it is a lot of bike for the money, and consequently built to a budget - that's not a criticism - but it wil mean TLC and preventative maintenance. So far its been ridden more miles in heavy rain and spray, than dry...in fact yesterday was the first dry run its had!...and even then I got hail stoned upon! Engine has not missed a beat, wet headling has been confidenc inspiring. However, salty wet spray over the last week meant yesterday the RH indicator stopped working - but a quick spray of GT40 when I got home solved that (should have done it before)...from what I've read on here, that's about as extreme as it gets - reports seem to be that it is a reliable bit of kit. Super!

Sounds like a right bargain. I've got an 09 and there isn't any problem with the fueling. I'm coming up to 7k on mine and the clutch still hasn't got any lighter, they've got quite a heavy action. Theres a thread on here about a modification to make the action lighter. Had Pirelli Stradas on it when I got it but I've changed them for Michelin pilot sports and they've been very good even in the sub 0 temperatures.

You've got a right bargain there considering the price rise for the new ones. When you can afford get the DNA filters, a nice exhaust ( so you can preserve the original ), and some Avon distanzia tyres when your others wear out. And Welcome to the forum.

Hi,
I bought it from a guy in Blackburn who didn't use it enough to warrant having it so hopefully I got a bargain. On closer inspection the bike is an 08 on an 09 plate which pissed me a little due to possible problems with fueling but I've got to say the bike ran great on the way home. It was bothering me it been an 08 so I rang him to see if he had any running issues in the 587 miles he did and he said that he experienced a very slight surging but nothing to worry about. I've not had chance to take the bike out again due to the weather but I'm thinking maybe I should of done some more research before buying. If the bike does play up what are my options (it still has 13 months warranty left) and would the bike run better when it's cold outside? PS Keith, I'm in Rawdon but start my new job in Keighley on Monday Cheers Armo |
