Smile Tyre Choices for my 04 XT660R

Right Lads,

I am in need of a new rear tyre badly and might aswell change the front to match the rear while I am at it. My bike is a 2004 Yamaha XT660R. I am not sure what set of tyres to go for or what tyre choices are available for this bike? I may want a dual purpose on-road off-road tyre or I may just go for a straight road tyre. I have contacted Crossans and this is the choice they have given me...

metzeler tourance street endoro
set 177.00
lasertec full street
set 168.00
See link for both sets... http://www.thevisorshop.com/acatalog/Metzeler.html
pirelli scorpion st street enduro
set 148.00
See link... http://www.thevisorshop.com/acatalog/Pirelli.html
bridgestone bt45 street
set 138.00
See link... http://www.thevisorshop.com/acatalog/Bridgestone.html

Is there any other type of tyre choice available or would any of you have experiance with any of the above tyres good or bad?

Sambo

OK so I'm a newbie and no expert but for what its worth I had an 05 660R and always used OE Michelin Siracs. I never had any problems with them so never tried anything else. I now have a 09 660R which runs metzler tourance. I find the Tourance way better for road use good in wet and dry. Can't comment on off road ability cos I ve no experience. Anyway I'm sure others will have their own views so wait and see what else people say but this is my experience.

Hi

just thought of another option Avon's Distanzia. I had a pair on an xt225 serow and they were great on road. not sure how they would be on a bigger bike but you hear people talking about them.

I thihk youve covered most areas. Its all really a try and see what they are like i find. Tried most of the tyres there and have only really noticed very slight differences /pros and cons. I now just go on avaibilty or what ever my local mechanics has in the shop at the time. Normally metz tourances as they stock them/are a dealer of them and get them cheap.

Got em on my R, superb on road in dry (can scrape pegs!) not bad in wet either, good on dry gravel but show them even a picture of mud and youre going nowhere other than down.
