Beowulf.
Just passing on some info I received from Beowulf this morning.They currently have a ten in the workshop, and hope to have an exhaust sorted, probs back end of next week.
They didn't say if it was a single or dual setup, but did say it should be on the web site soon. Don't know if this has been mentioned before. So just a heads up really. |

Fingers crossed for a single system.........
Although, because the Tenere needs some tail work with a single, I fear the mainstream aftermarket can makers will stick to dual to ease sales.

Sounds good to me gents, just need to get rid of the plug ugly standard cans! My vote would be for the twin pipes every time even though they will undoubtedly weigh more than a single system.
Just goes to prove how shallow I am........more interested in it looking right than being light coz if I was that bothered about weight I'd have bought a KTM690 Enduro. ....mind you, then again I'd have had to be colour blind like all my mates who can only see in orange |

Don't dual pipes mean the engine, well singles, perform better.

Weight at the rear, been on my mind a bit...
So the rear light/no plate hanger thingy weighs in @ 1.9Kg and the standard silencer is a whopping 7Kg (just weighed mine!). I now have a R&G tail tidy and a smaller number plate and this weighs (with indicators and lights) 0.65 Kg. I understand from X Racing that my single silencer will weigh ~ 2.5Kg (when it arrives), so that's a saving of 5.75 Kg!! Most of which hangs over the rear wheel at a height that you'll notice. Go and grab 6 bags of sugar next time you're shopping and hold it at arms length, like the shock has to.. Looks wise I do like the twin pipe set up (not the original dummy rocket launcher), but we all know this is purely aesthetic and enables exhaust companies to sell two silencers and extra pipework - so there's no surprise there are so many possibilities. When Akrapovic started working with the K7 GSXR 1000 in WSB/BSB, they had one pipe plumbed in and one to make sure it looked like the street bike! Remember the single sided flame on the over run? With some rails and panniers (no tools that high up) the rear end aesthetics should be fine.. I'll post some pic's when it's all together although I'm holding off for Kev's fuel mod before the tank goes back on.. In the meantime, here's the extreme noise/weight reduction alternative... I did read somewhere a while ago about motors performing better with a single system due to ??????
But I can't find the report anywhere, so trying to quote from it is like p1$$ing in the wind....... It's a subjective thing, this 2 or 1 can debate - I would preffer one, but it still has to pass the noise test...... X-Racing never bothered to reply to my question about the levels, so I never bought one. It would be nice if you could find out what they (db's) are at 3000rpm (there is an app for the iPhone (if you know someone with an iPhone that is!). If it's within the DOT regulations (broadly speaking!) then I might just have to order the X-Racing setup.

I'll play this by ear then!!
Db's will be somewhat misleading I think, due I think to the low frequency of the bigger bore engine. My 600RR track bike ran a straight through race sytem, although I did have a baffle in case the sound tester was having a grumpy day and that ran @ spot on 105Db without the baffle @ 5,750 rpm I recall. It was very loud on full chat and sounded wonderful, not unsoiciable like a revvy moped! My K12S with open Akra' was over 100Db and sounded louder than the 600 - am I making sense? The XT states under the seat 94DB and with the standard pipe/inlet I'd say that it's more in the high 80Db range. When I fit the X Racing can, I'll decide if it's trouble without a baffle and if I think it's OK - it's out, if not it'll stay in officer. The air filter change will make a fair difference too, as will not pulling 7k through the villages - but more gas flow in and out is the right solution.. P.S. Can you get the same software for the Blackberry? |
