Hi & Welcome to the Forum. I've not ridden a restricted xt before, but when I came back to biking 8 or 9 years ago I bought a ER5 off a friend which was restricted. I rode that for a while restricted and it was fine. The main difference after derestricting was all top end. For general day to day stuff it wasn't much different. I would guess the xt would be very simular to that experience. Hope that helps.

the bloke at the dealer said all i would lose would be top end but was just unsure due to the fueling problems, they will give me the unrestricted ecu with the bike aswell so if it is unbearble then i could swap it back, but dont want to risk it really

The restriction doesn't depend from the ECU it's a small plate that prevents the throttle cable to fully open up.

well according to the dealer its the ecu, which costs around 100 pounds, he said about the throttle cable but then found the restricted ecu in his parts list.
