Anyone converted main beam to HID?
As several others have described, converting the dip beam to HID using one of the HID50 kits is easy. So easy even I can do it.
But has anyone converted their main beam?
There is a difference in the bulb holders. The dip bulb locates in the correct place in the headlamp housing and is held in place by a spring clip, and has a separate wiring connector that then pushes onto the tags on the bulb. The main beam bulb is first pushed into place into the wiring connector which is an integral part of the bulb locating ring, and the whole assembly is then offered up to the hole in the headlamp housing and locked into place by a bayonet-fitting type arrangement.
Question is this: is the bulb located entirely by the ring locking down onto it, or does the connector also provide some support? In other words, if I attack the fitting with the dremel so that the locking ring and connector are separated (enabling the HID burner wires to exit the headlamp shell), will the HID burner be firmly held in place by just the locking ring?
