wobble at 95+
This is proberly in the wrong section so sorry if it is,but when i get the bike upto about 95ish on a private road of course it wobbles from side to side abit like a speed wobble if youve ever seen or experienced one of these.Ive put the xtx wheels on the r and had new tyres put on they have been balanced it did this with the original wheels on but not as bad,i did notice that the wheel does seem to sit to the disc side of the forks more.Any suggestions would be welcome,as this get a bit scary at that speed.

It's ok where you posted this, I am sure the Admin will not object.
As for the wobble, please check your tyre pressure, on these bikes the lower the better, specially if you are a healthy big bloke. After you try different pressure to see which one works do check your headrace to see is not overtight and that all your bearings are nice and smooth. Hold your front brake engage first gear and with a little throttle, gently release the clutch to see if there is front to back wobble in the in the handlebars, there shouldn't be, if there is, see a Yamaha mechanic. Good luck and.... Oi!! This is not a rizla suzuky thou k9, so if you got to 95mph apologize and ride properly not above national speed limits! |

Ha Ha My rizla thou is a k2 guv dynoed with 192 bhp and even at 160mph,7000rpm(on private roads) is as steady as a rock. And trust me this yam is going to need to go faster than 95 if it wants to be part of my bike /car collection.I can't see that my mate who doe's my tyres put to much air in it but it costs nothing to try it and yes i will check the head stock bearings. As for letting a yamaha mechanic touch it i would have to slap your face with a gaunlet for even suggesting such a thing regs Tony |

First thing I would do is centralise the front wheel, otherwise the bike will track & cause a weave.
I am not sure how old your bike is or how many miles it has done, so here are a few suggestions to look at. Check the rear wheel alignment, meaning the chain adjusters are equal. Are the steering head bearings ok & adjust correctly not to tight or to loose. What make of tyres are you running & what are their sizes, what is the tyre pressures set at. What is your rear spring set to, which notch & what is your approx weight. Also check the swinging arm bearings for play. Check the front & rear wheel bearings for free play.

Hi Kev the tyres are michelin pilots front 120/70/zr17 psi stated on the tyre is 42 it had 35psi in it.The rear is a pilot aswell 160/60/zr 17 42psi stated on the tyre this has 39psi in it,both tyres are spanking new and still have the bobbly bits on. All bearings seem fine theres no play in any of them and the rear wheel is level as it should be.im about a mans 15st,and i forgot to check the rear spring. When i was riding home from work this morning it was very windy which makes the wobble effect worse its like the steering has no resistance you can turn it with a finger.I presume centraliseing the front wheel is going to mean tyre of and loosening the spokes while on the spindel. regs Tony

Ok so i ordered a few bits and pieces ie;tail tidy, acerbris front fender, leovince exhausts,k and n filter, dna stage 2,led front and rear indicators, and last of all kevs fork mod.So as you can imagine i had a busy week end anyhow kevs fork mod turns up this morning as he lives in ausie and i live in the uk, so i fit the fork mod and take her for a large blat and at 105mph she was as steady as a rock,i was taking bends so tight i broke a bit of rubber of the foot peg .So a big thanks to Kev for the fork mod it really solves a load of handling issues and worth every penny.I did let some air out of the tyres aswell. regards Tony
