rear suspention

hey just wondering if you can set up the rear shock on the xt 660 x 2004?

just a bit soft and when carring a pillion its pretty low,

or would i need to get a white power or ohline shock?

Not sure about setting up the stock, but I have a Wilbers shock on mine, and it's a massive improvement.

If you have the original tool kit for the XT you will find a "C" spanner for adjusting the rear shock i,ve moved mine onto the 2nd from hardest setting and I dont carry a pillion! If\when you adjust the shock it is easyer if done by 2 people, keep the bike on the side stand and get your helper to pull the bike over against the stand so that the rear wheel is lifted off the ground as this takes the load off the spring then its an easy job just mind your fingers!!

Yea your standard shock is adjustable, like above. Easiest way is to get the rear suspension off the ground. Either try using a bottle jack onto the engine (or a piece of wood first) and get someone to steady the bike. Just watch though as its a tight fit to get the spanner in and turned and it can slip and you skin your knuckles. Ive learned from experience

There is a bit on top of the the spring with notches in it you cant miss it.

your rear shock should look like this its the bit at the top of the spring, it screws down and puts more force on the spring meaning you get less sag in the suspension when both of you get on the bike, therefore giving you more suspension
