Hi,
I've some "Dakar High" (603-01?) Renthal handlebars plus some OTR 22mm risers on my XTR. Swapping your handlebars over is easy (once you work out how to fiddle with your throttle cables). Adding risers is just as easy. Your problem will come with the length of the cables. When I first did it I thought the original cables were OK but the problem occur when you put the bars on full lock -- the cables should be free. The obvious problem is that the throttle cables become stuck, ie. you can't twist the throttle on or even let it go. A form of cruise control on hard right lock -- not a good idea, You need to adjust the cables (both throttle and clutch). There's a little bit of free play in them with the adjustment screws but not really enough (for me) to work properly with either the original bars plus risers or the renthals. Putting both on (risers plus renthals) just didn't work. I bought some "Universal Handa/Yamaha" clutch and throttle cables sets off ebay but I couldn't work out how any of the bits in the pack worked together let alone with my setup. (Another 40 down the pisser.) In the end I was running out of time and decided to shift the clutch and throttle cables so they run the fuel tank side of the headstock rather than in front of the headstock. The clutch cable has some interesting bends in it but it's been OK for 2000km. Cheers, Ian |
