My XTX 05 has never let me down (over 2.5 years of ownership) till now..... Starts fine but shortly after cuts out. Starts again after a few goes and 5mins down the road cuts out again. Starts again after another few goes.... and then runs fine all day. The next day (or after 8 hours at work) the same thing. It seems to happen only when the bike is cold. I've taken it in to Yamaha and it sat there over night and I assume it dried out. They can't find a problem. Could it just be that it was so damp and cold over the past few weeks that it didn't get a chance to dry out. I keep it outside under a cover all the time so it isn't garaged???? :0(

It could be one of the many electrical connections that are under the left side of the tank. The connection blocks are crap and let all the water from the road into them and arent sealed properly so after a while the wires and cables just corrode.
Have a look in there as my main cut out switch cable totally corroded through and the rest of the block connections where pretty bad.

If no one's interfered with the fuelling this doesn't go crazy by itself from one minute to the next. So let's not panick, first port of call is to inspect / clean / change the spark plug, as it can have residues in there due to long inactivity.
After this, since Badga has both DNA filters stage 1 & 2 I would give them a good ol' cleaning and spray them with the reactivating polymer oil spray. lastly I would check and spray the tickover screw to ensure its not worked itself loose and that its not got salt debris preventing it to operate smoothly. The fuelling fix would be the last thing I would try. It's an elelctronic setup achieved in the diag mode and it doesn't forget its setting unless like I said someone had "fiddled" with it. |

Could be anything but have a look at the coil, ht lead and plug cap where they join up, should be a watertight seal, it only takes a bit of moisture in there to stop it.

When the none starting fault happens you need to check the
Tilt &
Side stand switch's readings while it is happening. No use checking the sensors readings when the bike is starting OK.
The read measuring blocks can be read from the dash, check them against the workshop manual, we have had similar faults with 2 other tilt sensors before. I would also read the coolant & air temp senders while I am there. Otherwise pull the fuel tank off & unplug the tilt sensor & check for corrosion.
