OTR single can
Dear all.
I am Jaume from Barcelona. 50 y.old. I have owned 11 bikes, most of them trail bikes : 3 xt r, 2 honda xr600, 1 xrv 750 AT. My best adventure: 1996 Rally Granada-Dakar. (Reached Dakar beach).. My Last bike. TENE 08. Excellent bike. Just complain about stock exhaust: underperforms engine potential.... Question: have somebody already installed single can from OTR?. I like it. however I am reluctant to believe in such an extraordinary performance improvement ( according to OTR graphics...) . ARROW and Akra, very well reputed trade marks do not get such a good results...(just compare graphics...) Thanks for your comments and congratulations for the high quality forum.. Note: I will post soon pics of my bike and all my Mod.... Regards. Jaume from Barcelona. |

Am i the only one who thinks the OTR single can conversion looks bloody awful? it looks totally wrong, like it was butchered on by some backyard redneck. or is it just me?

I saw it in flesh and compared it with the OEM in weight. It weighs much less of course than OEM and it looks well-made. However, when it's on the bike, I totally agree that it looks out of place, the connector pipe is just not in the same line with the back of the bike. I think OTR just uses the same connector pipe as it has for the R or X version, and it didn't bother to redesign a special one for the Z, IMHO. It's too bad; otherwise, it would look quite decent.

I'd be interested in how loud it is with a single silencer on there. I have a pair of microns from a Firestorm to fit at some point now the tig welder has arrived (yay!!!) and I tried a single one on yesterday, it was waaaaaay to loud, and I like loud bikes. Guess I'll be making them fit as a pair.

If I compare the look of all the available pipes for the Tenere (
http://www.off-the-road.de/xt660_ten...ldaempfer.html), the connector pipe section just lines up awkwardly - or not lined up at all - with the rear end of the bike frame; hence, the whole exhaust system looks out of place. The only ones that look best, again just the looks, are the stock and the GPR, both of which are essentially hugging the line of the rear end of the bike. Just an observation and IMHO.

I visited OTR in Koln and did see and hear the OTR exhaust in real life. The sound is great. The Ten does now really sound like a big single.
I do realize that looks are very personal. But I noticed that the pictures do not give enough credits to this exhaust. The looks in real life are much better. Especially the right side (the one without a can) looks very spacy. It is my opinion that the claim of OTR - the bike looks 15 kg less - is true. Also, I think that the can should follow more the line of the back. But on the other hand, maybe I will order the OTR exhaust because it looks though! Just my 2 cents ... I agree Borus. Too bad that only OTR makes the single can (in addition to other home-made ones) that is for commercial sale. The single can, the spacious look, the most savings in weight among other systems, and the attractive sound may just compensate the look. At the end of the day, I probably have the cases covering it most of the times anyway. You reckon you may get one from them?

Nice to read that you agrees with me. The OTR exhaust has some negative points, but also a lot of positive points. I am not sure yet, but I think that this exhaust may be the best choice for me.

I have just got a special custom version of the OTR pipe for my rally bike (see thread:
http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=10925&page=6) which is approx 100mm shorter than their standard one, and no cat.
Because it is shorter, it tucks up very neatly against the frame, and will mount directly to the subframe, although this may not work with the standard rear tail-light unit of course. It is very well made, however it is also VERY loud, so I will be adding the dB killer - for scrutineering at least x |
