660Z Which rear rack?

I'm considering buying either the Touratech or the SW Motech rack. They both look similar apart from the colour but I'd like to fit the lightest one.
Having the SW Motech one on my Versys 650 I know it's quite heavy (and well made), has anyone tried both or either?

looks like a very well made rack; I'll consider it but think it might be a bit too wide. I like the size of the Touratech smaller rack but I'm sure the quality is not as good as the Zen.

Have you seen http://www.altechdesigns.co.uk/11-luggage-racks He has 3 sizes.

I've just made my own by hand to fit an old hepco+becker topboks with a univeral tube rack.

H+B makes a special rack for it (€140) but it would but the box so far back that i would not be able to open the sidecases.

Yes i need to take it apart again and paint it (and they last 4 bolts has been put in with self-locking nuts below. 5mm alu is not much thread)

TT

I have the small Touratech one. It's perfectly well made and looks very smart. Unless you plan to carry a huge roll bag I can't see any issues with it. They do do a larger one too. If you want big luggage carrying capacity, it's not the one for you, but if you want something that looks nice when not in use, then in my opinion, this is the one to have.

thanks for the replies guys; MB4807 I think the small TT is just too small, looks neat though. I like the altech design ones, not heard of them before, thanks for that Majland. How are you getting on with your Pivotpegz?

Hi all,

It's me that makes the Altech Designs luggage plates. I made some last year for a few people along with a few other bits and set up the website to make it easier for folks to buy them.

Weight wise, the smallest one is just 1kg, the medium 1.3kg and largest one is about 1.6kg. I've got the medium and large in stock but run out of small ones. Although I have a small one with minor powder coating blemish on the side that I'll sell cheap.

Gabe at zenoverland makes some great products also. I made the racks with the tenere looks in mind so the racks follow the lines of the bike nicely. The medium and large can both accomodate 40l roll bags. I use the small one for a small bag for my daily use to work.

If you are interested, give me a shout or you can buy direct from the website.

Al.

I have a Black 'Tenere' rad guard & sprocket guard on the project wish list at the moment. When funds allow I'll be putting the order in.

Really love them :-)

Bought them in 2010 for my Super Tenere and just moved them to the pony when i got that in 2013.

Did around 22000km with then on the old mule and are up to 15000km now on the new. They are (as many other add ons) ridiculous expensive, but once you have forgotten what you paid they are marvelous for us with big feet.

I knew about Al (Altech) because i've bought a sprocket cover from him and have been considering a red dakar radiator guard. I also considered to buy and adapt a rack but ended up DIY enstead to make sure that i would'nt need to bolt the h+b rack adapteor to a hole in finished rack.

The CNC cut looks much nicer than what I can do with a grinder. Maybe I'll add some round holes that can just be drilled before painting both the alu plate and hepco+becker rack:-)

PS thats how my sprocket and chain looked after 200km on wet and salty roads at 2 degrees C last week. The scottoiler kept the center of the chain well oiled but the outer plates does not get much "love". That the reason my next chain will be the DID VX2 with gold outer plates. They do not rust easily...

I fitted the Givi racks to mine. Got a set of Aluminium panniers hand made from 3mm aluminium welder plate and German quick release locks.

You can just see Givi racks

Pannier MK1

Will take pictures and find make of German pannier securing locks.

If interested I can get Panniers welded and powder coated. I had black and silver but I thing I can get any colour!
