Talon Hubs/ rear wheel.

Would like to hear peoples thoughts on the OTR 18" complete rear wheel with talon hub and excel rim.
How does the integrated cush drive hold up and is the whole thing more water, mud and sand friendly than the OEM ****E hub?
999� is a lot of Aussie dollars but probably well worth it.
Still haven't replaced my front rim but plan to very very soon.

Hi

Ive thought of doing the same as you as i want a 18" rear plus it will make changing tyres easier as the standard rims are a pig!!

But...a Talon hub on the rear and the standard on the front will look weird. im not sure that Talon do a hub for the front?? if they do...or they can make one it would be worth going single disc. (in my opinion)

The Talon/Excel rear wheel setup is lovely. Way better than the Yamaha one. Better cush drive, lighter, proper captive spacers so it's not an enormous PITA getting the wheel in.

I've only done about 4,000 miles on mine so far, so hardly comprehensively tested, but everything is still spot on. It's the same hub they use to build cush-drive wheels for Dakar bikes - so I'm not worried about the design.

Personally, from a UK point of view I think you'd be daft paying €1k to OTR in Germany when you could buy the same wheel direct from Talon in the UK for ~�540. OK, I think OTR include a disc and sprocket, but they don't add up to that much.

In terms of getting one shipped to Aus, I dunno. Just been chatting to someone via PM who's been having trouble getting a response out of Talon UK - dunno why, they were generally pretty quick to get back to me.

If you've got access to a wheelbuilder and a machine shop, it might be easier to get one made up locally.

AFAIK, this is what Talon have done to make the wheel:

- The hub is the Talon part for an LC4 KTM.
- The rim is an Excel 18x2.50
- Spacers are made to get the hub in the right place, lining up the rear sprocket with the front
- Rim is laced to get the rim centred - because the XT motor is wider than the KTM, there's a bit more of a dish to the wheel than there would be on a wheel built for an LC4.
- There's a ~10mm thick spacer ring behind the brake disc to push it back over to the right, again because the KTM setup is narrower.

Thanks for the info Uber, l will chase up something through Talon UK.
Just to make sure l read correctly they can supply complete wheel less sprocket and brake rotor.
That's almost half the price already. Happy days.

Yep. That's exactly what they will supply.

The sprocket is a KTM EXC/SX fitment, the disc you need is the one for a 690 (don't order an EXC/SX one, bolt pattern's the same but diameter is too small for the XT). Since both of those will be readily available locally to you, it's probably a bit silly to ship them from Germany.


@Marques - no, I bought mine from Talon UK, not OTR. That's the brand new wheel as it arrived. It's got a few scars now but still looks pretty much like that.

Hi,

I lunched my rear wheel on the Karokoram Highway in Pakistan and I'm looking for a replacements.

Would it be possible to give me some more information about how I go about ordering these from Talon? Can they supply a bolt in package [inc. spacers/discs/sprockets etc.]. I can't really be bothered getting one-off parts machined up myself.

I've spoken to Talon a couple of times and they have just told me they don't do an application for the Yamaha XT660R. I've got a quote from OTR at roughly �1500 including discs and sprockets which I can't really justify.

Do you have a contact at Talon who knows something about this or part numbers / invoice reference I can use?

n.b. I'm looking for a pair with the standard 17".

Any help you can give would be much appreciated!!

Sorry to be digging up an old thread, but I do need to find out which KTM LC4(which specific model, i.e 620,640,690,etc.) the rear hub is suitable for the Xt660z

I'm in the process of my XT660z build and is gathering parts

anyone with more information??

Hi guys,

does anyone has information about the excel wheel for xt660z?
Actually the model is xt660za but the wheels are the same.
Contacted with Talon from UK and they do not offer anymore wheels and hubs for Tenere.
