Depending on what your using the bike for and how much the tank is really. i think its a good idea. The XTRs tank is surprising big/good at getting milage out of it so that extra gallon should allow you to get at least 200miles + from a single tank. Just what you need when your travelling around some of the far east or african countries and saves you having to try and carry about a gallon tank with you in a stupid/silly place. But for normal day to day use the standard tank does most.

you should really try
The soft 12 litre fuel bladders, I am busy till Monday but I will take a picture of mine (then work out how to post a happy snap, I tried once before but couldn't sus it out). They are strong, cheaper, can be strapped in and around luggage and best of all roll up when empty taking up next to no space.
Best of all they go with you to your next bike. Here is link, I don't have anything to do with the company but the product is good. http://www.liquidcontainment.com.au/...category_id=26 And. I am yet to find anyone who can ride an XT660 for 500km without a short break. Gee, in some European country's wouldn't 500km have you from one boarder to the other??? |

Ive never heard of anyone doing 500km in one go on a bike let alone an XT660. But when you start touring/adventure/off roading in main land europe there are some places where petrol is either quite far to get to (50-60miles to nearest station, sometimes they dont have petrol or are not open, youve maybe got lost and had to do alot of U turns, or when off roading alot of slow speed stuff causes your MPG to be in the low 30's etc. Mainly its the ease of not having to go/find a petrol station every time or every other time you stop

Fuel bladder
Hi
I took one of the 12ltr bladders on a trip to Birdsville in outback Queensland. It actually wouldn't hold much more than 11ltrs and is quite tricky to refuel the bike. It comes with a screw on filler tube but this does not quite fit through the aperture in the screen inside the XT tank. I will find a smalle tube to fit on to it next time. The bladder it self sat very well on the pillion seat strapped to the luggage. I'd include a picture if someone can tell me how! Ed |
