leaking joins

The CCC's that are on my xtx are leaking at the join and making it sound pretty crap. What would be the best way to seal them back up?

How long have you had them on? I mean how long has it been since you've fitted them? I tell you why I am asking. Initially ALL CANS leak because the joints are "fresh" so to speak and within a few day's use the burnt carbon soot residues will work its way into the gaps and seal them naturally. If you have had the cans on for say a week and you have done an average of 50-70 miles a day they should have sealed by now but if they are still leaking then... you need to undo them again, fit them by pushing them more together this time and tight the joints firmly. Evenutally they will settle and not blow anymore, but if in the eventuality that they'll still blow a bit you can go to a Halfords and get a tube of GunGum which is infact an exhaust sealant but be careful to use only a little bit, because that sh|t sticks to them like hardened cement and when it comes to remove the pipes for maintenance it will be a b|tch to pry apart.

Good luck

They were already fitted when I bought the bike so I dont know how long they have been on for. :P

If Ive got time tomorrow ill try to push the joins together more or take them off and refit them with some exhaust sealant.

Thanks for the reply

Or you could use this stuff, instant gasket...

Its much less messy and seals em right up.
And while ya at it ya might aswell get a pair of these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/STAINLESS-STEE...1%7C240%3A1318

as i found that CCC supplied clips that were bit on the big size.

Never ever use Gungum to seal a new exhaust - this is marketed as a "silencer repair paste" It is part cement, part weetabix , as a result it is a b**ger to remove once set!

I would personally recommend Holts firegum which is an exhaust assembly sealant :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HOLTS-FIREGUM-...20149001r28792

I always use good old high heat clear silicone sealant. Easy to put on, easy to get off.
