Sheep-skin seat cover?

I'm contemplating modifying/adding padding to my seat as it has sagged a little to the point that my thighs could feel a bit of the frame because I had the foam shaved off for my height. Sheep-skin idea came to mind because I heard so much of its comfort, but I am concerned with how it stands in the elements. I have the fast white Tenere, so naturally I would go for the creamy skin color, will it get disgustingly dirty, will it get sogged after rain and would not dry quickly even with high-powered dry-cloth. Has anyone used it before, on the Tenere or other bikes? Which one is better: just get a skin and strap it on, or re-upholster it with the skin? Any tips/opinions are welcome.

I would say yes on all three counts, plus it will smell...

There may be a certain kudos to having looked like you made use of the whole animal you caught and ate in outer Mongolia, but I'm not sure that style would really work on the new Tenere?

Maybe a gel or Air-hawk pad is the answer?

JMo is right on all accounts, but you can still wash it.

I used one last year (I still have it) and it worked a treat for saving my butt on a long trip.

Look at :

(It is also posted on XT660.com but its in several parts.)

Air hawk is great but very expensive, my sheepskin is also great and very cheap 9 from www.lambland.co.uk .

you can use the skin off the bike too, and just remove it when it rains.

I bought a sheepskin buttpad from http://www.alaskaleather.com/ a year or so ago and I've used it on a few bikes. It has an elastic strap to go under your seat with quick release clips to remove from the bike. I use it as a pillow when camping.

A friend uses a whole sheepskin on his 800GS and it's nice to have as an extra bit of warmth for sleeping.

Cheers for that matey, I got one for a recent rideout very comfy and in black too.

I've also discovered a poor man's version of the Air Hawk.My wife found an inflatable cushion for her Dad's wheelchair for 6 from a disability aid shop.

Not attached or tested it yet but will post the results when I have.

No worries I couldnt believe how good it was for so little outlay. Interested to hear your results I have played with camping mat type cushions but not found anything better than the sheep skin yet. also got black as I figured it would stay less gruby looking and plus it can double as a cushion blanket etc or even an afro should the need arise. bring out the bbq its gona get hot
