Metal Mule Radiator Guard

As I thought the original plastic guard gave very little protection to the radiator for a bike designed to be used "off road" I bought a Metal Mule radiator guard . When I came to fit it I found the holes were not spaced correctly and needed filing to fit and two of the spacers/bolts were the wrong length !!

Having paid 45 for a single piece of ali and having to throw away 50% of the mounting hardware I was not happy !

Contacting Metal Mule just seemed to get a response that they had fitted loads with no problems and they are made on a CNC so must be right

has anyone else had this problem or is my Tenere made to different specs to everyone elses ??

TBH that's what I'd expect ! But being made on a CNC machine they shouldnt vary - when I had the problem I laid it over the original plastic Yamaha one and you could clearly see the holes were not in the right place ......

In fairness to MM , Paul has agreed today to refund me if I send it back so off down the PO soon !

Mine also rubbed the grey plastic protectors at the bottom where there is a 45 degree chamfer but needs to be a bit bigger for my bike - which it seems is to a different spec to everyone elses ! - weird .

I wonder if such an addittion is necessary anyway?

With the low front mudguard, you shouldn't have anything flung up that high? - I always thought that was the point of the low style mudguards?

(obviously Yam6 has taken the precaution as he has the high front fender conversion, and not just because he loves tart-parts x)

As I often ride in a group I was also concerned that "roost" from those in front could cause a problem . Been on rallies in Wales and seen radiators punctured by flying stones - most trail/enduro bikes have the plastic "venetian blind" type protectors that I would like to see on the Tenere .

My radiator has certainly been packed with mud that has somehow flown up there from the front wheel - not a problem in Nevada I guess ?!!
