Angry It's taking ages to start.......

Can anyone shed any light on the following?

Suddenly my XT is taking ages to start. You crank it over and over and eventually, when the battery is nearly dead, it will start but has to be revved to keep it going. However, no matter what you do, it will die again and then takes a couple minutes of prodding again before it restarts.

I've changed the battery and spark plug which was before this fault ocurred. Even with a fully charged battery it does the same every day. However once it is warmed up, it will happily restart every time until left for a few hours.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Is your bike fitted with a power commander? if so check the wire that goes from the PCIII to the tps see if that makes a decent connection.

Failing that your starter motor could be the fault.

If you cahnged the Battery and the spark plug before you had this problem, then have you got the right plug? Gap set ok? Maybe its a dodgy battery?

I would get the battery checked and try your old plug again.

Thanks for the replies.

The battery seems fine as it's taking it's charge from the Optimate and changes from charge to maintain as expected.

The plug is the right one, gapped correctly and the colour is in line with what it should be - light greyish. I've ordered another one just in case I have a dodgy one.

I can't see it being the starter motor due to the sequence of when it starts and then it starts fine after warming up.

First of all what mods are done to your bike?

What are the coolant & air temp readings in the dash when it is cold? Is it in line with the ambient temperature?

I did have your fuel mod, K&N filter and snorkel removed. I removed the fuel mod and refitted the snorkel. I put the settings back to standard (I can't recall the temp readings) but it made no difference.
