Tenere Stubby Mx Levers
HI, ok, anybody know of anyone doing replacement stubby levers, doesn't appear pazzo are, I would be happy to buy a new clutch lever and mount bracket but this could get expensive if I have to buy a new brake master cylinder also, any ideas?

Aha - something I have been looking into too...
The levers in the link look like (copies of) the CRG levers, which I have to say are very nice! However, the problem is the sizing - it seems the Tenere has an odd size clutch pivot. I've been speaking to ASV who also make some very tasty 'unbreakable' road and off-road replacement levers, and they thought their road lever/s for the FZ1 (new Fazer) application might fit the brake side (it also uses a pin to attuate the master cylinder) - the problem is, there is no corresponding clutch side that matches the new Tenere perch - the FZ1 version is too fat around the pivot. I suppose you could buy an OE clutch perch for a Fazer, but that is kind of defeating the object (and also unrealistically expensive)? However, I think I have found the solution (for myself at least) - I prefer the ASV F3 off-road type levers anyway (the road versions only have limited pivoting), and have ordered the universal clutch side with a short lever and it's own perch - and importantly a vertical bar-clamp, so I can fit a mirror post to the left bar - maybe not as important in the UK of course... Their brake lever BAF32 for a quad is also exactly the same dimensions as the Tenere lever (including the tab for the brake light switch) and is available in shorty length too, it just doesn't have the pin to attuate the master cylinder... however, I reckon a quick Dremil session will see the original pin fitting into the new lever, and job done! If it works*, I'll post up some pictures etc. xxx *if it doesn't, I'll have just wasted $160... |

So, I have a nice set of F3 levers that will fit a quad (with no left-hand switchgear)... great... (Actually, they will fit on my XR with a different knuckle on the brake side, fingers crossed they'll send me that part...) But as far as the Tenere is concerned, it's back to the drawing board (and the Yamaha dealer) for some 'road' orientated levers - I think the best bet is an FZ1 clutch perch and some levers for that as stromtrooper says... xxx |

Numberwang!
OK, having ridden the length and breadth of Las Vegas this afternoon, I have come up with half an answer...
The current model Yamaha FZ1 (the new Fazer) has the same front brake master cylinder as our beloved Tenere - yea! So that means the ASV C5 street lever (and presumably any other lever manufacturer who makes one for the latest FZ1) will fit straight on, and the ASV come in shorty or regular lengths... pn. BRC541 (or BRC541-S for shorty) - result! However, the clutch lever on the Tenere is some sort of strange size - certainly not the same as the FZ1 which is much fatter in the pivot area. Seemingly the solution would be to buy an FZ1 perch from Yamaha and then just buy the corresponding pair of levers from ASV... the only problem now is that a) over here in America, they only sell the half-faired FZ1, which means there is no mirror mount on the clutch perch (great...) and b) the perch only comes as a complete assembly with the lever etc, and is $91!!! booger... Now ideally, if someone over in the UK could look at the naked version of the FZ1 next time they are in their dealer, perhaps they could ascertain if the clutch lever is indeed the same for both versions, and that the perch on the naked bike has a mirror mount... oh yes, and that the perch is available to order as a seperate part of course... then we should be in business! btw. The ASV part number for the FZ1 clutch lever is CRC540 (or CRC540-S for shorty). Alternatively, a clutch perch from a different bike (and the corresponding ASV lever) would also create a pair with our FZ1 brake side... The problem over here in the USA is virtually every street bike is faired, so their clutch perches don't have mirror mounts (for example, the CBR600RR and GSXR600 have the same clutch lever as the half-faired FZ1 - and joy of joys, the Honda perch is available to order separately for $22 - gotta love Honda x) - but still no mirror mount of course... It seems the only alternative naked bike options in the US are the Kawazaki Z1000 and the Triumph Speed Triple, which both use ASV clutch lever CRC541... Therefore, I will trawl another round of dealers tomorrow, and will endeavor to find a solution to the clutch side problem... now I have to sleep! xxx |

jmo does the tenere cluch lever clamp not have a switch at the back so you cant start the engine unless the clutch lever is pulled in. also you can fit pazzo brake and clutch lever to the mt03 but you need to order yamaha fz1 ones together with a fz1 clutch lever clamp its got the same connector for the cut out switch. ive just bought a mto3 to run along side my tenere so will check the clutch and brake mounts tomorrow ..

Hi Tricky - ah yes, changing the clutch perch for an FZ1 one might be the answer (then I imagine you could order a set of levers for the FZ1 as Nick linked to above)...
As for the clutch cut out switch - it is very easy to disable/remove. All you have to do is disconnect the switch and join the two wires together, then the engine will start whether the clutch is pulled in or not when the bike is in gear (obviously it is a good idea to pull the clutch in if it is in gear!) xxx ps. same goes for the side-stand cut out too. You can remove the switch and wire to the loom, and just join the two tails together... |
