alternative topbox for Tenere
Shown are the standard Yammie box (Andrew's) and the modified Oxford one on mine, which opens up enough for a Chinese kerry-oot, loaf and 2ltrs of cola. Internal support includes a floor tile and old breadbin, it's better than the bought one.

Thats class, its like the evolution of mans topbox.
See right the old style mans topbox, its supported by the humble breadbin to keep its shape but also uses the average floor tile as well. Total carring capcity= chinese, 1 loaf of bread and 2ltrs of coke But the all new model on the left is all metal and shinny with pointy corners and some plastic. But dont kick it until you have tried it i use to use a 20 tail pack from oxford for 8 months along with my 25 oxford tank bag to hold all my bike stuff when i went to college. And ive still got it.

The alternative is no topbox at all! They're ugly and when fully loaded causes instability. I only have a small rear fenderbag from Touratech on my Tenere and for long trips a rollbag on the passenger pillion. This next to my alu panniers from Hepco&Becker. Greetz, Hans.

ugly?
Hans,
How can a Tenere owner throw the word 'ugly' at anything? And what does the fenderbag hold, a pack of three and a toothbrush? I've had a variety of bikes with topboxes/bags and had no stability problems at the speeds I chose to ride at, which these days usually doesn't exceed three figures. Two examples: two-up in Norway Isle of Man, no passenger, 100mph over the mountain (legal there) no wobbles |

Uglier
If you want ugly, throw some bar muffs into the equation.
Those Oxford bags are really handy. I've also managed to fit an old Yamaha plastic topbox and plate on when I need to carry more. You can't see from the pic below but the boltholes for the grabrails line up nicely with the front 2 on the plate. |

hand guards
Gregor,
I'm fitting handguards at some point, either Acerbis or the simpler Yamaha shield type. I've seen a few examples on the big Tenere thread on advrider. Another definite fitment at some point will be heated grips, Andrew and me both had them on our trade-in bikes (for the Teneres) and both miss them. I ride quite often to Aberdeen, leave my bike at NCP longstay at the airport (free for bikes) and go off to work for two weeks. 200 miles is a long way with cold hands. Anyhow, back to the main point. In the Murray bike museum on IOM, now sadly closed, was an exhibit that might interest you. The prof, Harry Lundberger donated his bike, complete with topbox: |
