Corrision to engine casings

Hi Everyone,
I have approached Yamaha UK (Customer Services) to complain about corrision to outter and inner engine casings on my FEB 07 XTR (9k miles - used daily). This is really quiet extensive, and not just where you might expect it (underneath and hidden away spots) but on upper casings as well. They have advised me to visit the Dealer I bought it from new, who have taken pictures and are sending these back to Yamaha Customer Services. As yet I don't know what the outcome will be - the bike is still under warrenty - so I might get new engine casings. Has anywone else suffered from corrision like this? Could it have been a "batch" production problem, in which case there are likely to be a few more bikes out-there that might be affected.

Regards,
Tomo7

Took mine to a local yamaha dealer and he told me that they would NOT replace them as it was wear and tear mine had only done 7,000 miles ,even though Yamaha uk had said ok the dealer would have been out of pocket on the labour

That does sound like a crap deal. Did you get back in touch with Yamaha and tell them what the dealer had decided? I would have thought it was not in Yamaha's interest to get bad PR by treating you this way. Failing that, you could take a case with the Small Claims Court: Goods should be fit for purpose.

FS365 or WD40 or simular. Tends to be a Yam trait if you dont keep on top of it

Bike was washed thouroughly after every ride and coated in oily rag and wd40 but you cant top it as the corrosion starts beneath the paint and Yamaha know this yet they will only replace outer most cases
