Ok, i've got the bike, now i need the paddock stand.. Which one..??

I was lookin at a one of those Pro Jib Lift stands on ebay, but didn't know if it was meaty enough for the XT.

What would you recommend..??

problem with this stand is it is to tall to fit under the xt so you still have to lift the bike on ,go to makro they are selling scissor bike lifts for 39.99 +vat and is ideal for servicing the bike as it lifts both wheels of the floor at the same time

If you use a scissor-stand type lift, what do you lift against on the bike - the exhaust pipes under the engine? Are they strong enough to take 180kg?

If you put a long bolt through the centre-stand mounting lugs it acts just like a centre-stand when you position the 'V' of the lift under the bolt. if you want extra security you can 'grip' it with locking mole/jubilee/lockwire/ties/WHY.

Where I live most of the year there is no-one to help so I use yachting rope through a tie-down over the handle bars fixed to wall hooks/tree to keep the bike upright when I remove wheels etc.

I was just about to ask the paddock stand question from the results here it does not seem like anybody uses them. I have seem few and though it would be a better way to work on the bike.

My sond has the MX push up stand for his bike and I cannot get it under the XT but it would be on the bash plate, just where you would want to get into the Sump plug....

For around 40 you can get a pair of paddock stands but I also would like to know if anyone has used them or had any bad news....

let us know

Colin, I use regular paddock stands. I have been using these from Italian firm Bike Lift who make proper quality stands. No problems so far

I think i remember being told that a bikes engine is not designed to allow all the oil to flow out if its on a centre stand. its not really much of a worry as its only a few millitres, but still thats a few mills that shouldnt be there.

I wouldnt put it against the pipes as i wouldnt think they would be strong enough. I put it up againist a bashplate which is connected via a few metal lugs/straps to the frame/engine
