Crank case gaskets

I took my 09 XTX to my local Yamaha dealer to change the gaskets on the crank case as the ones fitted at the time were leaking. They have changed the gaskets but used a lot of sealer on some of them, I spent a good hour trying to clean it off the casing (It was everywhere). My question is should they be using sealant on the new gaskets? I assume they have used yamabond. Cheers
