Overheating problem

Hi everybody,

I'm driving an XT660X (2006) and I'm from Belgium.
Last year I was on a ride and my bike gave me the RED overheating warning. I've seen that my fan wasn't running, so I looked for a new one and replaced it. Some rides later I had the same situation. Did some troubleshooting and found that my Fan-fuse popped. So changed that.
Again some rides later I could hear my Fan spinning and I was happy to hear it.
Now, 1 year later, during a very slow ride I got again the red indicator telling me that engine is running HOT. I could hear my fan running and I felt warm air against my legs. Went to a dealer and asked him if he could find anything special and I've got a "No Problem found" answer.
Lately I was doing my normal commute and again I've gotten the "engine is running hot" indicator. It was a hot day (very hot for Belgian standard) and I wasn't picking up any good speed.
Now I'm thinking that my waterpump could be the cause of the problem. Any tips and tricks to sort this one out? (Maybe I should start checking if that waterpump has also a fuse that could pop)
I'm also unfamiliar with the diag mode of the bike. So if I need to seek something there, please tell me step-by-step how to get there. I'm more familiar with 0's and 1's

Afaik the waterpump is a mechanical item..and its working if your fans coming on .
How old is the coolant itself?..Wouldnt hurt none to flush the system through a few times and change the coolant. Its a quick, simple and cheap job.
HTH.

Double check the actual water temperature against the dash temp reading, heat the bike up to dash temp 50C put a thermometer in the radiator or use a heat gun, what are the two readings?

If the fan is coming on the thermostat is open & there is circulation from the pump. I would also reverse flush the radiator using a garden hose.

They should be close.

Hi Kev,

Like stated in my first post, I'm a noob regarding the dash diagnostics. How can I read that temp on the dash?
And what do you mean with "reverse flush the radiator"? Sounds like the opposite way of a normal flush. So that would mean pumping water the opposite way it should normally run?
Sorry for the noobish questions.
