O2 controller??

Just had the seat off my bike for the 1st time.
There's a small box under there with a *** on it. I'm assuming it's an O2 controller as featured on here. It's currently set with the line on the knob to the mark on the box. Fully off? Don't know if there's a fuel controller or not, or filters. It's on standard exhaust.

What happens if I turn the knob?

There was no mention of it when I bought the bike and no paperwork on it.

Bike pops a lot on the over run with a closed throttle- is this related.

Thanks for any advice in advance

Mark

sounds like Kev's air temperature controller which fools the ECU into thinking it's a different temp than the ambient air temp and therefore instructs the ECU to richen the fuel/air mix. It's generally left at a 5 o'clock position to stop the bike being so lean on its mix. It's not the O2 mod which is a plug-n-play-no-fiddling device.

As for pops on the over run, this is normal and often stopped by blocking the AIS system. There is a sticky thread on how to do this.

yep!......and in theory is 'off' which is ok if you're on standard exhausts and air filter configurations. Owners with standard set ups still use the device to richen the F/A mixture to gain smoother fueling / feel on the throttle. It offers zero performance improvements though. Nada BHP increase, just more responsive on the throttle, especially when combined with the 02 device, but still zero extra bhp until other hardware is fitted.

Owners with free breathing exhausts and air filter/s need to have a richer fuel mix to help prevent lean running induced by these set ups which would overheat a piston crown.

Maybe your previous owner had after market pipes and filters and put the bike back to stock when they sold it and returned the dial to 'off'. Or maybe they just bought the device anyway, regardless of any set ups.

What year is your bike mate. The small box is the fuel mod normally set at 5 or 6 oclock. If your bike is 2004 to 2006 it will not need the 02 mod as you wont have it on your exhaust header. That came in 2007

Thanks for that.
A more responsive throttle would be nice.
My last bike was a Fireblade. I'm not looking to improve performance.
I am happy pottering about in the Scottish sunshine at (semi) legal speeds.
For the roads where I live (rural Moray) this bike is shaping up great.

Cheers again

Mark
