I had a Tuono and 'cored' (removed the cats) and rebuilt the internal tubing with stainless piping and then repacked the original silencer tubes with wadding and that took about 1 to 1.5 kilo of packing and they are big cans. I had to use quality stainless steel wire to bind the wadding onto the baffle tubing too. If you're going to bind the wadding around a tube rather than pack a void, remember not to tie it too tight around the tubing as it has the effect of closing the flow within the tubes perforations which are there to allow gas flow in to the wadding.Don't over pack. The v-twin Tuono has big exhaust pulses and those re-packed cans lasted 1000's of miles.
This is the tubing I'm talking about.......I've not had the experience of splitting a X or R model exhaust so I don't know how the internals look but if they are like this then don't over pack. Also wear a face mask as exhaust wadding is nasty stuff. I also took the opportunity to make some removal baffle plates... b wadding in situ..... b
