looking for a tail tidy for my 2005 xt660.

I know some people say that the bigger the rear light the better but I feel it really let's the rear aesthetics down by its huge size. I want something sleaker.

So for the life of me I can't seem to find a tail tidy/replacement rear light that goes on without having to cut or modify anything. I saw on a few weeks ago online but have no idea where.

I need something I can just slot straight in.

I have seen the passport ones on eBay for ;35 for the xt 660x but it looks like the same item for other makes and models.

Anybody know where I can get one that will slot straight in. Plz don't tell me to MOD my own or make a bracket etc as some people are just not very technical.

Thanks.

if you search the forum there are various threads on this 'mod'..including a few of my own.

There's a cheap ish way but it means a small amount of work cutting and fettling,2 hours max from start to finish.

You will need various things including these..

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4pcs-12V-...19.m1438.l2649

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-Motorc...19.m1438.l2649

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motorcycl...19.m1438.l2649

There are various different option's/prices available..I paid more for the original tail tidy and a third of the price for oothers..all the same.

Gotta remember you U.K. guys have tougher, brand new, M.O.T. standards to pass starting today. (Yep, Sunday ).. Don't forget the issue surrounding a registration plate light and rear red reflector.

Im assuming these new MOT rules are applicable from the next due MOT and not retrospectively applicable....

I guess...... So it's probably still true that bikes that are new still have the 3 year rule, leading up to their 1st test on their 3rd anniversary of registration and everything else will be every 12 months from the date of the last test unless any of these bikes are declared off-road by that Sorn process.

There's always the personal ownership work-arounds where things are made 'just so' for a test and removed / changed back to preferences afterwards but you're probably then at the mercy of the cops in the unlikely event you're stopped or even stopped and the cops noticed or are bothered.

However, imagine if you were re-ended in night time traffic whilst you were static at a junction or something else and the offending driver / attending police (injury incident) behind you could demonstrate the lack of required illumination, (and only a hint of a get-out maybe required) there could be an insurance claim issue that ordinarily would be straight forward.

I guess it's down to an owner's own research and individual's regard for the relevant traffic law. I'm no saint but then again there are NO tests for motorcycles where I live...

Hi beef,

I had the misfortune of loosing my rear light assembly, reg plate and contents of my bladder when the whole thing dropped off and locked the rear wheel on the M6.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a bolt on solution for the X/R, other that the one from OffTheRoad:

https://www.off-the-road.de/en/XT-66...XT-660R-X.html

I wasn't prepared to pay so much for what seemed like so little. I ended up having to cobble something together using a Lampa Aero-X tail tidy:

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F361579911646

The finished product is perfectly legal with room for a full sized UK license, license lamp and reflector and still looks miles better than the stock assembly (and I'm next to useless when it comes to working on the bike).

Ashamed to say that I've got all the pictures with step by step instructions but never got round to posting it on the forum.

Currently at the in-laws enjoying the fine weather but I'll add some quick photos when I get home, along with the full post.
