Tenere Tool list

Hi all,

I'm preparing for a long journey on my XT660Z Tenere.
I made a list of tools I will need for my trip, but since I haven't tinkered much on the Ten (because it hasn't broken down yet) I'm not completely sure what to take.
Please tell me if I am missing something important.
Hope someone has nothing to do and go through the list XD

It's not a spare parts list, I might add one on this forum in the future maybe.

This is my list so far:

Wrenches
  • 8mm

    Steering head nut (not sure what size this was)

Allen keys

    14mm (front axle)

Sockets

JIS cross head
  • Small

    (don't know what exact sizes)

    Valve removal tool

And some lengthening parts for the ratchets (1/4" and 3/8")

14mm Allen key to remove the front axle .

Oh yeah got that as well, it's included in the tire lever set from ORT.

I love this stuff, a proper chance to chat about tool-porn and all things shiny and gadgety.

I ride where there is no help or assistance and it's a case of fix it or walk / sleep on the trails.

It's a big personal thing on what you take and is relative to the type of tour / trip but I wouldn't be without my Rocky Creek air pump and tubes. Plus, it's been mentioned many times but do try and have a go at changing a rear inner tube at home and discover what you needed and take that with you.

The rear tyre is a complete PITA to get off the rim because of its safety bead. I carry Motion Pro bead breakers and a tiny tin of WD40 for lubing the tyre off and back on the rim.

Also latex / surgical gloves. I hate oily hands and would hate more oil inside my riding gloves.

Back to tyres........a valve removal tool and a spare valve core. If you lose one, whilst repairing a tube, in the wind swept sandy trail it's a game ender.

A complete set of fuses too.

12 Volt converter output for your phone. Your phone will be flat when you break down, it's Newton's Law of Physics number 12.

Thanks for the in depth reply

Air pump is attached to my crash bars, as well as some tire repair. I haven't come around on taking of the tires at home yet, which I will do in the coming 3 weeks since I am leaving for Scotland after that.

I will add the valve removal tool, spare parts I will take with me aren't listed here. But the spare valve core I hadn't thought about yet.

I have two USB outputs mounted on my handlebars already .
