Hello all.
Random one the other day. Oil pressure warning light came on whilst riding around London in heavy traffic. I looked for a petrol station to stop at and check oil. found one after 5 minutes and whilst pulling in it went off again. Checked oil, looked fine. Got going, came back on for a few minutes then off again. Seems strange that as soon as I left the busy bits and got a move on it didn't come back on. 100 miles home and no problem atall. Have checked the oil pressure is shaping out the hole by filter and had a 15 mile ride a few days ago with no problems. Any ideas where to start? I'm thinking maybe a cable or connecter but can't find much info on the parts.

Is the fan cutting in properly, could be over heating? Might just be oil pressure sensor on the blink, quite a common fault on the BMW f650gs. The trouble will be trying to find an intermittent fault, once something stops working completely it's relatively easy to trace the problem.

Thanks for your reply! I did wonder if it was anything to do with overheating but from my limited knowledge overheating shouldn't cause low oil pressure?
I've also had a look at diagnosing a fault with the oil pressure sensor but from what o can see its not an easily changeable part.. Seems you have to strip the engine :/

Low oil pressure can cause overheating...oil not only lubricates the engine but also transfers heat ..

Is the oil level ok?..how old is it?..any leaks?...

Have you checked the engine coolant?

That makes sense Looking at it like that! Oil level is spot on, 2009 bike, no leaks, coolant is ok. Very strange as other than that one time in London the bike sounds and appears to run beautifully.
