Smile New XT660R owner (Cyprus)

Hello everybody. My name is Panais and i am from Cyprus. Just bought a used XT660R today(2004, 40,000km). I am open to any advise from you and i want to say that this forum has helped me a lot as a buyers guide. I am also a new rider so im not experienced in general. Only thing that concerns me is the ECU/TPS issue. Only the mechanic rode the bike and said is ok but dont know yet for sure. He will make a list of the parts need change and let me know. He will change the timing chain for sure. The bike looks good mechanically but needs some fixing on the looks due to the age of it.
Wanted to post some photos of it on here but it seems like attachment option is not available.

Panais..you are very, very welcome to the group. Thank you for looking to join.

At 40 mil K there should be ZERO T.P.S /E.C.U issues. 40K is a very young age for this engine. The timing chain should not need to be changed at this low engine use. The timing chain should last 100- 120,K before it is a concern.

Please look at this forum for more information before you give euros to your 'friend' mechanic. The moto may need a new drive chain (engine to rear wheel αλυσίδα) and new blocos / brake pads /
εξαρτήματα φρένων plus new engine oil and filter νέο λάδι κινητήρα και φίλτρο

There should be no concerns
Δεν πρέπει να υπάρχουν ανησυχίες

Chalk Two thank you for the kind reply. If its a 14 year old engine and dont really know previous services and maintenance, its not better to change the timing chain and not to risk?

the timing chain (camshaft to crankshaft https://www.ajsutton.co.uk/genuinepa...am-chain?uID=0) has a life of over 80,000km. If it rattles or is noisey it might be the chain adjuster is stuck, but this is also rare.

chei zo pno ap 80.000 chilimetra. En koudounzei enai thryvo, sos enai o rythmists alysdas kollimnos, all aft enai epsis spnio.

Some mechanics will take your money for a part that does not need changing and tell you the work has been done as they know it is not possible for you to know if the work has been done. It is your choice but if you choose to have this work done I would ask for photographic evidence of the work done and the old chain which is your property. This is a lot of work and I would not purchase a bike that requires a timing chain at 40k

Αυτό είναι πολλή δουλειά και δεν θα αγοράζα ένα ποδήλατο που απαιτεί μια αλυσίδα χρονομέτρησης στα 40k

Only thing I would do to a new bike is an oil and filter change...maybe spark plug and air filter too.

Hey mate, welcome.
You don't have to worry about timing chain as it's just 40K for the machine. Ride another 40K and then you might be needing one.

As you have mentioned that you are still a new one in the motorcycling world (I hope I read that correctly), so never ignore the importance of protective clothing. There are many brands like HD: http://www.harleyheaven.com.au/for-men.html, Resuregence Gear: https://www.resurgencegear.com.au, Revzilla: https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/...n-covert-jeans

Wish you the great experience with your Yamaha. Cheers.
