Going tubeless

Can it be done? Can you blow a tubeless tyre back on the rim should it dismount whilst out on the trail? I came across this guy's efforts on a Tenere and other bikes. A good read.

I’ll digress for a minute!!

I’ve had a 955 Tiger nearly 18 years bought from new in the end I got fed up with the 19” front went 17” with a pair of Dymags.

But over the years i’ve Lost track of the number of threads about going tubeless on the forums, i’ve Lost track of the number of both DIY commercial versions,as is the way all proclaimed as the best thing since sliced bread and the net being what it is no one is going to come back in 12 months to say it was crap.

Of all the options and versions i’ve Seen the Japanese Outex looked the best to me assuming you can get it and cheap it ain’t and of course the whole scenario relies on you really keeping an eye on the spokes because you’ll only need one to work loose wear through the tape and your stuffed, but that is just one of those risks you will have to take with any tubeless conversion.

It’s why BM have made a killing with their spoked tubeless wheels because their patent was that tight its taken years for others to get around it or just pay like Apriila did.

To be fair I'm a disbeliever too. I thought this would be a 'cuppa-tea' read for some who wanted to delve in to the subject. For me, my biggest concern would be how do you re inflate a 'tubeless' on the trail, that's run off the bead, (considering our fronts don't have the safety retainer bead), with your puny 5 amp air pump or even more comically, CO2 cylinders? Perhaps some brave types would fill the tyre with hairspray and ignite it back on, because we all know that works.........on huge 4x4 tyres.

I have a Bart tubeless rear on my XT660Z, it has done 8k without any problems and holds pressure fine. I am hopeful in the event of a puncture the bead will still be mostly in place and i can plug and reflate it, that's what happens on my other bikes anyway. Can,t do the front rim because there is no safety lip.
