Ecu Flashing

Hello

My name is Philippe, coming from France, and i'm the (nearly) happy owner of a XTR 660 from 2004, i buy this bike last year with only 1500km !

I use it for long trip in est europe, 50% off road, 50% road, and she is really nice for this !

Really nice, except that the motor isn't smouth, and this awfull popping...

Usually i "hide" myself, and only read the forums, and i find all the answer. But for this subject, i did not find any clear full answer, besside, thanks to this forum who already give me a lot of usefull informations !

I search in length, witdth and breadth, and it seem that the spark advance is one of the main problem on my bike. (I have the 00 ECU)

So for a first step, i send my ECU to a really well know company specialized in this bike. But i get really surprised when they ask me what ignition table and what fuel table i want to put inside, and they can't waranty me it's work or not. I did not expect that, so i ask them to return my ecu without doing noting.

It's seem that ECU flash is not really an hard things with the right tools, and as i find few ignition table (Pegaso, XTR after 2009...), i could try which is the best.

My question is : Someone know which pin we have to plug ?
The ECU have to be connected on the bike ? Or disconnected during the flashing ?
Does the KWP 2000 working for this ? or there is better tools ?

I'm taking any advise on this subject !

Thanks a lot, and sorry for my poor English !
Best regards.
Philippe

Are you wanting to flash the ECU to remove surging and popping in the exhaust?..

Have you considered alternatives?..like Kevs mods and doing the AIS mod?..

Are you a full member and have you got Kev's mod download?..

Hi,

Yes i want remove surging and poping in the exhaust

I already checked kev's post i have this version :

"2004 to late 2005, part number on ECU 5VK-8591A-00, very hard to fix the surging. Twin spark ECU. Fuel device does help with the surging. Cuts out at random. Adjusting the CO will help at part throttle with the surgingMy fuel mod or PCV/PCIII does help with the surging but will not cure it with this ECU."

As i read in many other places, the first step to cure this ECU is the spark advance, so before playing with the fuel, i would like to change it.

No idea if i'm full member... i follow this forum since long time but i just register yesterday !

Best regards.

I feel your struggle. I'm in the same boat with the 00 ECU. I have the AIS removed and a custom PC map but it will not remove the hesitation and popping completely. I'm looking into having the ECU remapped as well.

I don't understand why you asked to sent the ECU back when they asked you for timing and fuel tables. Surely they could have provided you with (base) tables that would've more or less fit your setup?

It's not that easy to do it yourself I think. It can be done but how exactly is a mistery to me, the people that know keep it to themselves and profit from it.. fair enough it probably took some effort to figure out all the details. I think you can use Tunerpro software to make the connection between ECU and PC. I think its possible to make the physical connection to the ECU without opening it but no idea how the other option is to open it up like this guy did -> https://imgur.com/gallery/BwVNYko. That guy used some Freescale device with Codewarrior as you can see in this video -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AREzSQXb9hU.

It's a bridge to far for me but if you find a way then please enlighten us
