Oil change and sprocket cover?

Evening all
I notice that when you go to do an oil change, the handbook says to remove the camshaft sprocket cover and with this not being immediately obvious to me,I was wondering if someone could tell me why I would do this?

Cheers!

PS ive just found an older post with the very same Q.
All I could think was a vacuum, but the area around there shouldnt be of concern really and it seems the answer seemed to be not to bother removing it?
The handbook actually highlights the cover's outline in black,so its obviously not a mistake I wouldnt have thought.
Its from the 2010 XT handbook of the Forum and is at Chapter 3/24.
Any new thoughts about this?

Cheers again!

your post is in the XT660 section.
Mine is an XT660R 2009 and there is no mention of any cover.

you basically remove the two drain plugs and the filter cover.

the srpocket cover is near the bottom drain plug but causes no obstruction.

HAve I missed something?

would be useful if you scanned & posted the page showing this.

BTW by" camshaft sprocket cover" do you mean the cylinder head cover at the top of the engine?
